Forensicare is the statutory agency responsible for the provision of adult forensic mental health services across Victoria. This position is located at the Community Forensic Mental Health Service (CFMHS) in Clifton Hill, 15 minutes from Melbourne’s CBD. CFMHS is a specialist state-wide agency that works with individuals who have a serious mental health illness and have offended or are at risk of offending.
About the role:
The Chief Psychologist, Community Operations & Manager, Problem Behaviour Program (PBP) is a senior clinical leadership and management position at the Community Forensic Mental Health Service (CFMHS). This position contributes to service planning and development as well as providing expert consultancy and advice to other agencies and key stakeholders. The role is responsible for overseeing psychology programs and activity at CFMHS including the effective delivery of the Problem Behaviour Program delivered by highly specialised and skilled multi-disciplinary staff.
- Manage the delivery of Problem Behaviour Program services.
- Manage the CFMHS Intake Service.
- Monitor and co-ordinate requests for primary and secondary consultations, psychological reports to the courts, and reports for the Adult Parole Board and the Office of Public Prosecutions.
- Provide direct clinical work with clients as required, and deliver advanced psychological assessments, interventions and reports.
- As part of the CFMHS management team, contribute to the setting of service-wide directions and standards.
- Provide high level advice to the Executive Director at CFMHS on emerging issuesin forensic mental health.
- Liaise and consult with internal and external service providers, partners and stakeholders to achieve service reputation and growth, satisfy stakeholder needs and meet contractual requirements.
- Ensure the effective planning and development, recruitment, selection, training and deployment of psychology resources across the Community Service.
- As a member of the Psychology executive, contribute to the planning and development of psychology services across Forensicare.
- Undertake quality improvement projects focused upon improving the standards, systems and processes, associated with the provision of clinical services.
- Demonstrate excellent communication skills in recording and reporting clinical information.
- Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing education and professional development through accessing internal and external staff development opportunities.
Skills and experience:
- At least ten years of experience in providing services in forensic mental health or related settings.
- Demonstrated commitment to mental health consumer recovery.
- Listed as an endorsed supervisor (or eligible for being so listed) with AHPRA.
- Demonstrated ability to lead a group of multi-disciplinary staff and manage a complex program effectively and efficiently.
- Expertise in clinical forensic mental health practice including assessment and treatment of mentally disordered offenders and behaviourally or sexually disordered clients in individual and group formats.
- Extensive knowledge of relevant legislation, the mental health system, and the criminal justice system.
- Expertise in program development and evaluation.
- Proven ability to liaise and communicate effectively with stakeholders including with a range of external bodies, agencies and government authorities.
- Demonstrated capability in the provision of strategic advice in relation to service development and practice within a complex organisational setting.
- Experience conducting empirical research and engaging in other scholarly work.
Mandatory qualifications & registrations:
- Masters or Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from an APS accredited course or equivalent, OR Doctorate degree in Forensic Psychology from an APS accredited course or equivalent.
- Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulations Agency (AHPRA).
- AHPRA approved area of practice in clinical psychology and/or forensic psychology.
- The successful candidate will be required to register their qualifications on eCredential.
