About the organisation

Organisation Name : Womens Centre FNQ

The Womens Centre FNQ is a feminist, community-based not-for-profit organisation that provides a range of support services aimed at assisting women and their children, who are homeless, and experiencing domestic and family violence. Established in 1986, they’ve grown from humble beginnings; providing information, support and self-help groups from a small shopfront; to a thriving organisation offering a range of programs from their offices in both Cairns and Atherton.

Working alongside clients to build resilience and independence, the Centre supports women to make their own decisions and life choices. With a small team of 15 staff, they deliver a range of programs across their locations, including Crisis Intervention, Family Support, Young Parent Support, DV Court Support and an 8 bed independent living DFV shelter.

At the heart of all of their services is the belief that women and children have the basic human right to live safe and independent lives, free from violence and abuse.
