About the organisation
Ladder provides development services to young people experiencing or at risk of homelessness who
may also be disengaged from employment and/or education. The philosophy underpinning Ladder’s
mission is to work with young people using innovative approaches that demonstrate real and lasting
changes, with the values of sport at its core. Ladder is the official charity of the AFL Players Association
and the charity partner of the AFL.
The Ladder Step Up Sydney program helps young people (aged 15 to 20 years) to develop foundational
life skills, build self-efficacy, connect with the community and engage or increase their capacity to
engage in education, employment and training. The program is also designed to help young people in
care or with child protection experiences build confidence, make connections with people and helpful
services and teach living skills.
Funding is supported by the NSW Department of Communities and Justice, and working in partnership
with key program partners, Ladder Step Up Sydney aims to support young people to:
- Build foundational, and independent living skills
- Increase their confidence and self-efficacy through a range of health and wellbeing activities
- Build team and group work skills through a community-based group project
- Identify appropriate education, employment and training pathways
- Assist in the development of a support network linked to their Leaving and Aftercare planning and Game Plan
- Clarify available community resources and other natural supports in their lives
- Explore, test and trial different work experience, volunteer and volunteer-like activities and settings with young people to support the development of core employability skills
About the role
The role focuses on developing relationships with young people within the context of Ladder
programming. The program model brings together, education, career development, health and wellbeing and social inclusion to provide a highly intensive holistic support package for at risk young
people. This role also includes working in partnership with internal and external stakeholders and
supporting and leading the Ladder Step Up Sydney team.
The Team Leader role reports to the NSW State Manager. The role tenure is aligned to funding, with
the contract for 6 months, up until 30th June 2021. Service delivery locations will vary, so the
successful candidate must be willing to travel.
Key Responsibilities – Program Planning, Oversight and Delivery
- Contribute to proactive, strategic and integrated program planning, ensuring that key
strategic elements (i.e.. AFL industry engagement) are captured - Develop positive, professional and strengths focused relationship with young people
- Supervise and contribute to the delivery of the Ladder Step Up Sydney program, ensuring
alignment to the program model - Run health and wellbeing sessions with young people at the program sites using Ladder
developed materials, and other local opportunities and resources - Ensure individual 1:1 check-ins are occurring post program and that all evaluation relating to
these activities are complete - Ensure all in-take, assessment, referral and waitlist activities and processes are meeting the
program need - Oversight of the scheduling of all Step Up Sydney program activities
- Identify and manage any issues that may arise with stakeholders and program participants
- Oversee the implementation of Ladder strategic initiatives locally
- Key program administrative duties, including maintaining financial records, reporting and
program evaluation
Key Responsibilities – Reporting and Evaluation
- Ensure that all data is collected, and reports are compiled and provided to the NSW State
Manager within agreed timeframes - Oversee all program evaluation activities to meet contractual requirements and improve
knowledge and practice
Key Responsibilities – Partnerships
- Support relationships with Ladder stakeholders including AFL NSW/ACT, Greater Western
Sydney Giants Football Club, corporate supporters, program partners and philanthropic
organisations where these are relevant locally - Take part in Ladder Step Up Sydney program partnership meetings and ensure that all local
developments and opportunities are regularly communicated to the NSW State Manager - Assist in the implementation of new partnerships and initiatives at a local level
Key Responsibilities – People and Culture
- Support individual members of the team to achieve their work plans
- Develop and manage staff work plans and performance, ensuring that staff are supported to
reach their potential - Assist in the organisation and delivery of the Community of Practice for Development Coaches across the country
- Ensure that staff are aware of and working in line with the organisational values
- Contribute to staff recruitment in line with the HR Handbook
- Deliver relevant training and induction to staff within program budget
- Ensure all staff are inducted in line with Ladder Policies and complete HR Handbook training
- Ensure all staff are adhering to all Ladder policies and procedures and breaches of these are dealt with swiftly and fairly
