About the Opportunity

St John supports over thousands of events per year across the Victorian community with our dedicated volunteer membership as the lifeblood of the organisation, providing first aid and health services to those in need at public events and emergencies. As a result of increasing community demand and output we are seeking a dynamic volunteer management professional with operational experience.

This role is integral to the ongoing development and support of our volunteer managers and volunteer members and will also manage our Volunteer Support Officer, which is a vital role in the operational support of volunteer members and youth. The Volunteer Development Manager will provide leadership, support and direction to the volunteer network and career staff, coaching and developing them to increase engagement, capacity and capability.

About You

The Volunteer Development Manager position is suited to an enthusiastic, and well organised leader who is ready to take the next step in their career journey. You will be positive, motivated and able to think outside the square. Your ability to communicate with influence and build strong relationships across all levels of the organisation will see you succeed in this role, and ensure you are collaborating with our staff and volunteers to meet our Event Health Services objectives.

Note: Previous experience working with budgets/P&Ls, volunteers and workforce planning would be highly regarded.

Essential Skills and Attributes (Selection Criteria):

  • Operational management of geographically diverse and remote workforce.
  • Leadership capability and experience, including coaching, performance management, skills assessment and recruitment.
  • A background demonstrating continuous improvement and business efficiencies.
  • Flexible with working hours with some capacity to work after hours and weekends.
  • Analytical with the ability to interpret data and set appropriate strategic actions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with influence.
  • Highly organised with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to be proactive and maintain motivation.
  • Ability to work with a sense of urgency in a fast-paced environment.
  • Intermediate / Advanced computer literacy skills, including Microsoft Office skills, Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Willingness to undertake a current Police check and Working with Children Check.
