About the role

  • Work with social suppliers to address disadvantage through social procurement
  • Engage with local and state government on social procurement policy
  • Melbourne/Sydney, Maximum-term (until Dec 2021), Part-time (4 days/week)

Who we are
Social Ventures Australia (SVA) is a social purpose organisation that works with partners to improve the lives of people in need in Australia by helping businesses, governments and philanthropists to be more effective funders and social purpose organisations to be more effective at delivering services. SVA’s Impact Investing team provides socially oriented organisations with a combination of capital and support to help them achieve social impact.

Social procurement targets and policies are becoming more embedded in many government and corporate organisations. This is generating significant new business opportunities for social enterprises and Indigenous businesses with appropriate scale and capability. Growing the size and capability of social enterprises and Indigenous businesses (collectively: social suppliers) that have the opportunity to benefit from social procurement is critical to the growth of the sector and to the success of social procurement – which at it’s heart, generates jobs for disadvantaged people.

SVA has received philanthropic funding from Gandel Philanthropy for FY21-22 to work intensively with a small number of social suppliers to help them scale up and create employment opportunities for priority job seekers. We also work to secure government and privately funded grants that co-fund the intermediary support SVA offers that would otherwise be inaccessible to social sector organisations. As part of this initiative, SVA will provide a range of tailored supports to social suppliers, including business planning, financial modelling, bid support for grants and contracts, financial structuring, capital & fund raising, advisory services and contract negotiation support.

The position
This exciting maximum-term, part-time position (4 days per week until December 2021) sits within SVA’s Impact Investing team and connects buyers and social enterprise suppliers across a range of industries, with a particular focus on business-to-business (B2B) contracts that create large numbers of entry-level employment opportunities.

The role will provide hands-on support to between 4-6 social suppliers and/or social procurers to help them scale up operations through step-change transformations that create approximately 150 new jobs for disadvantaged Australians (primarily Victorians) and create significant lasting improvement in social enterprise capability and financial sustainability.

Who you are
This is an exciting opportunity to help social enterprises identify, pursue and capture new B2B business opportunities to create jobs for disadvantaged Australians. You will come to the role with a depth of experience in business development, involving identification, evaluation and cultivation of growth opportunities, putting together bids for new work, negotiating and agreeing contracts and successfully delivering contracts.

To be successful in this role you will have a track record of success in overseeing projects from inception to completion, including identifying and mitigating risks involved and in the financial management of projects. The ability to nurture relationships with clients throughout projects will be crucial.

If you have the knowledge and experience we are looking for and are excited to join our dynamic team, please submit your CV (max 3 pages) and a statement (max 1 page) addressing the position requirements by midnight AEST Monday 5 April 2021.

SVA values diversity and encourages applications from candidates of all backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and people of colour. We value people of all abilities and diversity of culture, faith, gender identity and sexual orientation. We welcome unique contributions and perspectives of all people to ensure our workforce is representative of the communities we work with and live in.
