About the organisation
The Victorian Foundation for Survivors of Torture Inc. (also known as Foundation House) provides services to advance the health, wellbeing and human rights of people of refugee backgrounds in Victoria who have experienced torture or other traumatic events in their country of origin or while fleeing those countries.
The organisation was established in Melbourne in 1987 and is non-denominational, politically neutral and non-aligned. Foundation House is a state-wide agency offering services in metropolitan, regional and rural areas, with head office based in Brunswick. We have approximately 200 staff with metropolitan regional offices in Dallas, Sunshine, Dandenong and Ringwood.

About the program
The Foundation House Education and Early Years (EEY) program has the objective of improving heath, wellbeing and educational outcomes for children, young people and families from refugee backgrounds by building the capacity of professionals and services to work effectively for and with individuals and families.
The initiative
The Multicultural Education Aides Initiative Project provides support to Multicultural Education Aides (MEAs) during 2021 via MEA Networks in targeted locations, online professional learning workshops, and practical resources. All Activities are accessible to staff working in government, Catholic and Independent schools across Victoria.
About the role
The School Support Officer (MEA Initiative Project) works with Senior Schools Support Officer (MEA initiative) and the wider EEY’s team to build the capacity of MEAs to support the engagement between schools and families from refugee backgrounds. The position involves establishing MEA Networks in targeted locations across Victoria; designing and delivering online professional learning workshops; and, developing resources to support MEAs in their roles.
This is a fixed term (0.6 EFT), 12 month position based in Brunswick.

Using your excellent time management skills you’ll be able to work within a project framework whilst remaining flexible and adaptable in your collaborative approach while working with others. You will thrive while maintaining and establishing networks and have the ability to monitor any issues and identify opportunities for development. You will have an understanding of the role of capacity building and advocacy and be able to lead and motivate others to implement change.
Salary and benefits
Remuneration is based on our Enterprise Agreement 2014 up to $94,433 gross per annum, pro rata. Benefits include salary packaging, leave loading, and a range of flexible working options, a highly supportive team environment, excellent training, support and development opportunities.
