Located at the geographical centre of Victoria, within one hour's drive from Ballarat or Bendigo, and just two hours from Melbourne sits Central Goldfields Shire Council covering an area of 1,532 square kilometres with an estimated population of 13,000 people. Maryborough is the major business centre with an estimated population of 8,000 people and is surrounded by seven townships and small hamlets. Central Goldfields Shire features schools, recreation reserves, open space, swimming pools, iconic heritage architecture and significant Aboriginal cultural heritage sites. There are approximately 2,000 young people aged 10 to 24 years making up 15% of the population. Young people in Central Goldfields Shire experience poorer health and wellbeing outcomes, lower levels of youth engagement and high proportions of the population not in learning or further education compared to the rest of Victoria's population.

About the role

We are looking for a qualified and experienced Youth Work professional who can increase participation by young people in community life and decision-making by creating environments that encourage and empower young people to get involved.
Central Goldfields Shire Councill is funded by the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing to deliver the Engage! and FReeZA programs until 31 December 2021.
The activities you run with and for young people will support the delivery of these programs, plus others as identified, such as Youth Week. Your aim will be to increase participation by young people
through the implementation of these funded programs.

You will also support the engagement of young people to assist with the development of strategies and support the re-activation of the Youth Hub located in Maryborough. You will do this by working closely with young people and our partners to ensure young peoples’ needs are met.

Working within the multidisciplinary Community Partnerships team, you will contribute to a culture that fosters customer first, collaborative, and innovative thinking and approaches to service delivery.

You will have a Degree or Diploma in Youth Work or have less formal qualifications with relevant experience working or volunteering in the youth sector. You will have experience in implementing youth participation principles, proven ability in negotiating and developing positive working
relationships, and excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to confidently and professionally communicate with a range of stakeholders.

You will be required to work outside of the normal spread of hours, which may require some weekends, to ensure the appropriate delivery of the Engage! and FReeZA programs.
Only applications addressing the selection criteria will be considered. The role is offered on a temporary part-time basis until 31 December 2021 which is when the Engage! and FReeZA funding ends, with a range of flexible working arrangements available.
