The Opportunity 

Orygen is looking for an allied health professional to work within a multi-disciplinary team within our Parkville Hub. The Parkville Hub is Orygen’s demonstration integrated service offering young people, families and carers a range of services across the full continuum of needs, using a stepped care model.

The role and your impact

This is a part time (0.8 FTE), fixed term position available until 30 June 2022, located in Parkville, with opportunity for further employment.

The Access Team Clinician will contribute to developing and providing high quality, early intervention intake/assessment services to young people, their families/carers and community professional/agencies. This position will have a direct role in the engagement, assessment and coordination of care for young people accessing services at Parkville Hub including Parkville Clinic. The role will also assist in the referral of young people to appropriate programs (including research interventions) either within the Parkville Hub or other community agencies.

In addition, the position will participate in community awareness raising activities that promote early help-seeking for mental health and substance use problems in young people. Your role as the Access Team Clinician will aim to improve access to services and continuity of care for young people across four core streams of service: mental health; alcohol and other drugs; primary care; and social recovery/vocational services.

Salary and benefits

Depending on your skills and experience, a salary of $57,265 – $75,148 p.a. What you will bring to the role

To be successful in this role, you will need to have tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline in clinical psychology, social work, occupational therapy, or mental health nursing. The successful candidate must have full registration with AHPRA or eligibility for full registration with AASW.  In addition, you will need:

  • Passion, energy and determination to make a difference to health outcomes for young people.
  • Experience in the provision of mental health care, including experience in exploring young people’s needs, presenting issues and psychosocial factors contributing to mental health difficulties.
  • Experience understanding risk and crisis intervention, provision of brief interventions and psychoeducation where relevant.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to determine and plan for a young person’s recovery and support needs, employing a shared-decision making approach.
  • Demonstrated sound ability to make decisions, problem solve, and risk manage, in relation to young people and families presenting issues, and determining a young people’s suitability for ongoing treatment/support services within the Parkville Hub.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to liaise and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Commitment to supporting clinical research within the service.
