Who we are
Social Ventures Australia (SVA) is a social purpose organisation that works with partners to improve the lives of people in need in Australia by helping businesses, governments and philanthropists to be more effective funders and social purpose organisations to be more effective at delivering services.

The Policy & Advocacy team supports SVA to achieve its mission by distilling what we have learned about reducing disadvantage from across the organization and combining these insights with the external evidence to develop policy positions. We run advocacy campaigns to see these policies enacted and to influence the systems that prevent vulnerable groups from thriving. We work with partners across all areas of social policy including people excluded from education, employment, and housing, as well addressing issues affecting children experiencing vulnerabilities, people with disability and First Nations peoples.

The position
We have an exciting opportunity for an Advocacy and Campaign Manager on offer to join our team in a part-time (0.6ft-0.8ft) maximum-term capacity (12 months). In the role you will develop and run an advocacy campaign to secure government support for a Women’s Housing Fund to attract large-scale private capital investments into the development of new affordable housing for older women at risk of homelessness. In the role you will develop and implement a campaign that sits within the context of SVA’s broader policy and advocacy agenda and our drive to understand and desire to change the structural causes behind persistent disadvantage in Australia.

You will play a key role in developing SVA’s advocacy position in the broader national debate and be responsible for fostering relationships with decision makers and stakeholders in the community housing, homelessness, property and (where relevant) financial services sectors. You will also contribute to the broader social policy and advocacy agenda, including government relations work of the Policy and Advocacy team, to ensure alignment with SVA’s multifaceted engagements with governments and Ministers.

Who you are
This exciting opportunity will best suit a self-motivated individual with a proven ability to understand the levers employed by Government in economic and social policy to achieve social impact. You will come to the role with deep knowledge and understanding of social and affordable housing policy and research. With experience in designing and implementing advocacy strategies, you will have strong knowledge of campaigning frameworks and tools.

With strong relationships and project management skills, you will be known for your experience in facilitating significant and collaborative systems change processes within a multi-stakeholder environment. Your ability to build and enhance a range of sustainable relationships with stakeholders and achieve collective impact in diverse cultural settings will be key to your success.

If you have the knowledge and experience we are looking for and are excited to join our dynamic team, please submit your CV (max 3 pages) and a statement (max 1 page) addressing the position requirements by midnight AEST Sunday 16th of May 2021.

SVA values diversity and encourages applications from candidates of all backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and people of colour. We value people of all abilities and diversity of culture, faith, gender identity and sexual orientation. We welcome unique contributions and perspectives of all people to ensure our workforce is representative of the communities we work with and live in.
