About the organisation

Organisation Name : Melbourne Grammar School

Melbourne Grammar School is one of Australia’s leading independent schools, with a tradition of excellence spanning more than 160 years. Melbourne Grammar School prides itself on its inclusive, community-focused culture in which student effort and achievement are recognised and celebrated. This culture is further enhanced by a network of highly engaged staff and parents, the knowledge and experience of its alumni, full enrolment, the depth of its community connections and its long philanthropic history.

With the support of the School’s new Headmaster, Philip Grutzner, as well as the School Council and Whole School Executive, Melbourne Grammar School is committed to taking a more strategic approach to its development activity with a view to raising the profile of philanthropy across the School. Melbourne Grammar is now seeking a new Head of Development who will lead this change, with responsibility for the strategic and operational leadership of the development team and its programs.

About the role

Reporting to the Director of Community Relations with regular contact with the Headmaster, you will develop and lead the strategy to grow philanthropic income for the Melbourne Grammar Foundation’s four philanthropic pillars – namely the Indigenous Programme, Buildings and Grounds, Scholarship Fund and the Melbourne Grammar School Endowment Fund.  This will be achieved by integrating the full suite of development programs, including annual and regular giving, major gifts, scholarships and bequests, to secure a strong and diversified income stream.

To be successful, you will have a proven track record in a similar fundraising role, gained within the independent education sector, the higher education sector, or a relevant not-for-profit environment.  With outstanding communications skills, you will enjoy building and motivating a small team to achieve shared goals while working with the broader Community Relations team, the Melbourne Grammar School Foundation Board, senior volunteers and the Whole School Executive team to enhance all facets of the fundraising function.
