About the role

Servicing the INNER GIPPSLAND areas – 12mths Fixed Term/Full Time 

We have an exciting opportunity within our inner Gippsland region. Key Assets seeks to appoint experienced and appropriately qualified Family Preservation and Reunification Practitioners to join our fast growing team.

About the role

The Family Preservation and Reunification (FPR) response is an integral component of the Victorian Government reform and service system improvement. The new whole-of-system model and redesign for the children and family systems will reorient the child and family system towards earlier intervention and prevention to reduce and prevent risk to children, build family capability and improve child and family outcomes. 

Key Components of the role

The FPR practitioners will work with the FPR Team to provide intensive supports to families in Inner Gippsland, work alongside Child protection and Ramahyuck in a collaborative practice model.  The families receiving the service will be unborn notifications, children aged 1-5 and 10-15. 

Reunification is a key feature to support families where children are in out of home care for short periods to return to safe families.

Using a team approach, the FPR Practitioner will 

  • Provide an in-home family casework service, working in partnership with families to achieve their goals, aimed at enhancing child/children’s development and family functioning.
  • Take steps to reduce risks to children’s safety and wellbeing and other family members.
  • Work with families to empower them to manage their life situation and to take charge of their lives, including a positive engagement with their community
  • Work collaboratively with Child Protection, other professionals and families’ broader social networks to ensure a coordinated support package is in place

To be successful you will need

  • Hold a recognised Social Work Qualification, if qualification is from overseas then proof of validation by the AASW required. Or a Qualification in Psychology, Counselling, Behavioural Science or other relevant degree may be considered.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct comprehensive safety and wellbeing assessments and make sound judgments in relation to prescribed actions.
  • Demonstrated awareness and commitment to working within the ‘Best Interest Principles’ outlined within the Child, Youth and Families Act 2005.
  • Sound understanding of the Child Protection system and child welfare work and ability to liaise and negotiate with DHS Child Protection in relation to addressing protective concerns for children.
  • Excellent organisational, time management skills, and ability to be self-directed.
  • Be willing to undergo and satisfactorily complete personal and statutory checks
