The Alfred, a major tertiary and quaternary referral hospital, is best known as one of Australia’s busiest emergency and trauma centres and is home to many statewide services including the Heart and Lung Transplant Service, Victorian Melanoma Service and Major Trauma Service. This site is also home to the Alfred Medical Research and Education Precinct. The Alfred Foundation exists to inspire, motivate and engage philanthropy to help The Alfred deliver on this pursuit of excellence.
Philanthropy has enabled The Alfred Foundation to work together to drive innovation at the hospital, purchase new equipment, redevelop and expand facilities to improve patient care, support research, fund scholarships, build knowledge and share learnings with the world. Reporting to the Deputy Director of The Alfred Foundation (TAF), and leading a small team, the Senior Manager Major Giving will drive multiple streams of philanthropic income including major gifts, trusts & foundations and gifts in wills.
This position is an integral part of TAF’s Leadership Team and fundamental to the sustainability of the organisation’s income in order to support the work of Alfred Health. This important role requires a strong, strategic, creative and capable leader who will guide the growth of the TAF brand and ensure the success of the organisation through excellence in philanthropy. You will lead the development, implementation and evaluation of robust strategies for attracting and managing high net worth donor relationships and lead delivery of a Supporter Experience charter, plus personally manage a portfolio of top-tier major donors to maximise their long-term commitment to TAF. It will be important to inspire, motivate and lead the Major Giving team to ensure high performance and champion the Culture of Philanthropy, embedding the supporter at the heart of business strategies.
You will liaise with relevant internal stakeholders to understand projects, decipher complex ideas, prioritise funding needs and engage across the network to enhance donor experience through stewardship opportunities to gain insights, see and connect with The Alfred’s world-class services. You will be a motivated, committed and results-driven fundraising leader with 7+ years experience in leading a successful major gifts program, have practical understanding of moves management and current knowledge of the philanthropic landscape.
Excellent communication, negotiation, story-telling and influencing skills are essential, along with sound commercial acumen, problem-solving ability, people leadership and project management skills. Relevant tertiary qualifications (Business, Marketing, Commerce or Social Impact) and CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Executive) are highly regarded.
