Optometry Victoria South Australia is the member association for AHPRA registered optometrists. Around 88 per cent of registered, practising optometrists across the two states are members of the association. We drive excellence in eye and vision care and lead, engage and promote optometry, optometrists and community eye health. We do this with the strong support of our members, and by working collaboratively with a range of internal and external stakeholders.

About the role

Develop and deliver a communications strategy that aims to strengthen member engagement, support members in their practice and promotes primary eye care across Victoria and South Australia.

  • Develop and deliver a comprehensive communications strategy across two states
  • Write, edit and produce a variety of member publications and communications
  • Coordinate and develop a strong social media presence
  • Part-time role (0.5 EFT)

Reporting to the Member Services and Policy Manager, the Communications and Publications Coordinator is a critical member of the team, helping set the ‘voice’ for the association across all communications channels to a broad internal and external stakeholder base.

The Communication and Publications Coordinator will develop and deliver a comprehensive communications strategy to support the work of OV/SA. They are responsible for the development and delivery of member publications, will provide communications to support the policy and advocacy work of the association, will work closely with the events team to promote state-specific and national events, will be responsible for social media and online communications and, will develop other member resources and documents as required. The Communications and Publications Coordinator will also drive communications for the annual membership renewal campaign.

A highly professional and personable worker, the Communication and Publications Coordinator will deal with time-sensitive and occasionally complex material on behalf of members and is required to act with integrity at all times to meet business needs.

The Communication and Publications Coordinator needs to balance and prioritise competing operational interests and has strong personal skills such as relationship building and influencing. The Communication and Publications Coordinator can set and achieve work goals independently, and possesses the flexibility to meet the needs of a small service.

This position requires the development and effective maintenance of professional relationships with a variety of external stakeholders, in particular OV/SA members, other communications professionals within the eye care and related sectors, OV/SA suppliers, and Optometry Australia and its’ other state member associations.

This position is a permanent 0.5 EFT role with flexibility to work from home and in the office.
