About the organisation
Thorne Harbour Health is a community-controlled LGBTI organisation, governed by our members, and working for our sex, sexuality and gender diverse communities.
For 35 years as the Victorian AIDS Council (VAC), the organisation led the Victorian community’s response to HIV and AIDS. Our work has now moved beyond Victoria and Thorne Harbour Health is responding to a broad range of issues. Thorne Harbour Health aims to improve the health, social and emotional well-being of LGBTI communities and those living with or affected by HIV, with a particular emphasis on bringing the HIV and AIDS epidemic to an end.
About the role
Thorne Harbour Health, Victoria’s largest provider of LGBTI health services is looking for an appropriately qualified, warm, organised, collaborative and enthusiastic case worker to provide Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Care and Recovery Coordination (CRC) for LGBTI community members experiencing problematic substance use in the Loddon Mallee region.
As a CRC worker you will work within an LGBTI affirming, harm reduction and trauma informed framework, using a range of approaches, including outreach, brief interventions, opportunistic counselling, assessment, and collaborative treatment planning. You will help clients connect to and engage with appropriate internal and external services in order to help them achieve their identified AOD treatment goals.
This position is located in the Thorne Harbour Country community hub in Bendigo, but will be part of and supported by the broader AOD team at Thorne Harbour Health, located in the head office in Abbotsford and at the Victorian Pride Centre in St Kilda. Some travel to Melbourne will be expected.
Knowledge of HIV, hep C and sexual health is desirable as is an LGBTI affirmative stance and a genuine interest in meeting the health and well-being needs of our diverse community. Previous experience in case work and/or AOD will be highly regarded, but is not essential.
Thorne Harbour Health offers a supportive team environment, regular clinical supervision, ongoing professional development opportunities and the opportunity to further develop your skills in working from an LGBTI affirming and sex positive framework.
