About the organisation

Organisation Name : Per Capita

Per Capita is an independent, progressive think tank, dedicated to fighting inequality in Australia.
We work to build a new vision for Australia based on fairness, shared prosperity, community, and social justice.

About the role

Per Capita, one of Australia’s leading progressive think tanks, is seeking a talented communications professional to manage our media and events program.

The role includes daily interaction with the Per Capita audience on social media, managing all print and broadcast media engagement, composing and distributing a fortnightly e-newsletter, managing a national events program, updating and maintaining the Per Capita website, managing the production of podcasts and other digital media material and overseeing the design and production of publications.

Using Meltwater media management software, you will monitor Per Capita’s reach and impact, establish and maintain relationships with key political and social policy journalists, and produce quarterly activity reports for the Per Capita Board.

You will work closely with the Executive Director on communications and fundraising campaigns, and support the Per Capita team of research analysts, fellows and economists to maximise the influence of our work to fight inequality in Australia.

You will be a creative and collaborative person, with a commitment to social justice and social democratic politics, ideally with 2 – 5 years’ experience in a similar role. You will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, a strong understanding of social media, a working knowledge of Australia’s political and economic media landscape and experience managing databases and liaising with suppliers. Audio and visual media production skills would be an advantage.

The position is based in Melbourne, with occasional domestic travel, and offered on a part-time (0.8EFT) basis. Flexible working conditions, including work-from-home days, staggered start and finish times, and time-in-lieu for work outside standard hours, are available. Salary is commensurate with experience.
