Founded 19 years ago, the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) is Australia’s largest human rights organisation providing support to people seeking asylum. We are an independent not-for-profit organisation whose programs support and empower people seeking asylum to maximise their own physical, mental and social well being. About The Role
The ASRC is looking for an experienced human resources professional, who is looking to either further develop their skills in employee relations, or put their experience in workplace relations to good use.
The successful HR Advisor will utilise their experience and knowledge, with the guidance and coaching of their program Director, to provide expert advice and support to all members of staff on workplace relations matters. This role will join the ASRC’s dedicated, supportive and passionate human resources team – who support the organisation through recruitment and employer branding, onboarding, orientation and exiting, and wellbeing and safety. The HR Advisor will oversee key employee relations matters including performance and grievance management, support effective team development and provide expert advice to key stakeholders.
As well as enjoying the opportunity to learn and develop within a supportive and experienced human resources team, the HR Advisor will have the opportunity to play an active role in building on current foundational policies and processes while supporting the entire ASRC team at all of the ASRC sites.
When stepping into this newly created role, you will draw on your experience in workplace relations, your knowledge of legislation and modern award interpretation, as well as your highly developed ability to think logically and strategically in an employee relations context. By utilising your exemplary attention to detail and excellent communication skills, you will become an integral member of the ASRC human resources team.
This role uniquely offers the ability for the right candidate – a passionate and eager human resources professional with a strong interest and foundational knowledge of employee relations/workplace relations – to develop into the role through coaching, mentoring and on the job training from a seasoned employee relations professional.
Alternatively, this role would suit an ER/IR professional who is looking to work part time and lend their experience in a for-purpose environment. Either way, the role has room to evolve and the right candidate can make this position suit their career trajectory.
In addition to a tertiary qualification in human resources, law, workplace relations or related qualification, the ideal candidate will possess:
- 2+ years experience in a human resources role, ideally with exposure and experience in an employee relations or workplace relations setting
- Demonstrated knowledge of the industrial relations sector and implementing current best practice
- Experience in proactively managing employee grievance issues
- Ability to effectively resolve employee disputes through the facilitation of in-house mediations or investigations
- Experience and competence in providing timely advice, coaching and support to leaders and staff members on workplace relations matters, including modern award, Fair Work legislation and policy interpretation
- Demonstrated aptitude to manage union and union delegate relationships
- Experienced in managing matters involving the Fair Work Commission is desirable
- Flexible Working Arrangements, including the ability to work remotely
