About the role
EXCITING NEW ROLE AS A FIRST NATIONS COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR!
Part time position (0.8) with salary of $86,000 – $100,000 (pro rata) excluding 10% superannuation
Located anywhere (with access to the internet)

Common Ground is at an exciting stage in our growth as a not-for-profit. We’ve secured long-term funding, and are excited to be expanding our team.
Reporting to the CEO, the First Nations Communications Director will work closely with the Common Ground team on a number of existing projects, as well as have opportunities to co-create and deliver new storytelling and advocacy projects that will achieve impact for our communities.
The role exists to manage the ideation, planning, development, implementation and evaluation of all communications activities. And to lead the First Nations team in developing Common Ground projects, initiatives and opportunities to centre First Nations voices, perspectives and knowledges.
This is an identified role for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
WHO YOU ARE (ESSENTIAL)
You have extensive experience centering First Nations stories and voices in content, film, educational programs or advocacy work
You have extensive experience in communications and/or marketing
You have experience managing teams in a fast paced environment
You have experience in publishing/editorial, media/PR and/or content production
You have experience designing, delivering and measuring projects related to social impact, systems change, policy or advocacy
You have experience managing multiple internal and external stakeholders
You have experience centering First Nations people and communities in your work
You have strong oral and written communication skills
You have strong project management skills
You have strong coaching skills with a proven ability to build the capability of others
You have a strong understanding of First Nations community interests, with a demonstrated knowledge of community strengths and current issues facing community
You have attention to detail with a passion for excellence
You have the ability to work independently, self manage and make decisions on behalf of Common Ground where required
You have proficiency with key workplace tools such as Adobe suite, Google apps, Slack etc.
You are professional, collaborative and have a team-based approach
You have advanced cultural intelligence and the ability to work with First Nations individuals and communities with diverse experiences, while centering safety and cultural protocol
WHO YOU MIGHT BE (DESIRED BUT NOT ESSENTIAL)
You have a tertiary qualification in Media/Communications, Business, Film or Arts
You have experience working in NFP, advocacy, activism, community organisations, CSR, for-purpose organisations or social enterprise
