About the organisation
WHLM was established in 1978 as the regional women’s health service in the rural Loddon Mallee region. We are a not-for-profit health promotion charity run by women for women.
Working within a feminist framework WHLM addresses the cultural and structural causes of gender inequalities impacting the health and wellbeing of women in the regional, through research, advocacy for systemic change, training, and external capacity building.
Our priority action areas are to advance Gender Equality, Prevention of Violence against Women, and to improve Women’s sexual and reproductive health. WHLM encompasses the municipalities of Macedon Ranges, Mount Alexander, Central Goldfields, Bendigo, Loddon, Campaspe, Gannawarra, Buloke, Swan Hill and Mildura.
About the role
The position forms part of the Health Promotion Team. The team consists of a Health Promotion Manager, Senior GE Advisor, Women’s Health nurse, Prevention of Violence Against Women, and Gender Equality promotion officers. This position will have a particular focus on women’s sexual and reproductive health however will input into other work and priorities of the organisation.
The primary role of the sexual and reproductive health promotion officer is to deliver high quality health promotion projects to address the reproductive and sexual health needs of the Loddon Mallee region.
The HPO in conjunction with the Women’s Health nurse play and active role in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of health promotion projects utilising evidence-based frameworks.
These projects are diverse and can include community-based projects, health information resource production, community education and capacity building.
While other staff also participate in this priority area, this position plays a key role in leading our SRH work, including ensuring the implementation of the Regional SRH Strategy and its coordinating consultation mechanisms.
This role is also responsible for the enhancement of regional sexual and reproductive health partnerships by networking, working productively with current partner organisations and identifying potential new partners in the work.
The HPO will actively contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of other projects within Women’s Heath Loddon Mallee Health Promotion Plan as required, along with other HP staff and the CEO.As a part of the HP team, the HPO will also contribute to the major communication strategies of the organisation, including social media, quarterly newsletters, and our annual report.
The person in this role also needs to have a working knowledge and understanding of women’s health and wellbeing needs and the structural factors that can cause and maintain health inequalities.
The person in this role needs to be a team player, working collaboratively and see what’s possible, has strong stakeholder engagement skills and can work effectively with a variety of key stakeholders, to guide collective decision making to achieve and ultimately set a clear and shared vision for the second regional strategy.
Excellent project management, organisational and time management skills, are vital as well as a proactive approach to work with an ability to prioritise your tasks to support a busy organisation.
