About the role

  • Work with Melbourne’s most progressive housing and homelessness organisation
  • 0.9 FTE, 12 month fixed-term

Our Initial Assessment & Planning (IAP) service is Launch Housing’s first point of contact with our clients. The role of staff in this team is to provide assessment, information, prioritization, referrals and emergency accommodation support to assist families and individuals to find short term
and long term, secure and affordable housing. The service is extremely high volume, responding to the needs of homeless people, many of whom are experiencing crisis. Therefore, we are looking for people who can work under pressure with the ability to make sound decisions quickly. We are currently seeking a passionate individual to join our dedicated Initial, Assessment and Planning (IAP) team as a Specialist IAP Coordinator, someone committed to working with people who are homeless, or at risk of
homelessness on their journey out of homelessness.

The Specialist IAP Coordinator will work closely with the IAP Coordinators based at our Collingwood, St Kilda & Cheltenham Entry Points to better understand demand patterns and build further capacity in the triaging knowledge, skills and capacity of the broader IAP team. A significant element of this work will include working closely with Program Management to support the re-establishment of the current version of the Vulnerability Index (VI) tool (known as the VI-SPDAT) in daily assessment and triaging functions, to ensure staff are re-trained and competent in its use, to gain buyin and reinforce the use of the tool for all IAP staff.

To be successful in this role, you will be:

  • Empathetic and able to relate effectively and sensitively to people from diverse backgrounds
  • Committed to ensuring consistent and best-practice approaches to initial assessment, planning, prioritization & referral, including at the
  • Entry Points and across IAP outposts
  • You have a track record in program or service coordination experience within the community and/or public sectors, and an understanding of, and commitment to, the application of triaging
    processes in high volume client settings are also vital
  • Tertiary qualified in human services, social work or other relevant discipline and have a comprehensive understanding of the issues which those experiencing homelessness confront
