The Development and Fundraising Office’s (DFO) main purpose is to raise the profile of the charities of the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney (Archdiocese) through focusing its fundraising and marketing efforts and building partnerships with businesses and other Catholic associates. DFO oversees the fundraising and marketing for, The Charitable Works Fund (CWF); Priests’ Retirement Foundation (PRF); St Mary’s Cathedral (SMC); Holy Father’s and Holy Places Appeals; Bequest program and Cardinal Gilroy Society; Rome Pilgrimages and Sydney Catholic Business Network

About the role

The role of the Bequest Manager will engage prospective benefactors to consider leaving a bequest to support the works of the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney, well into the future.

In addition, the Bequest Manager will steward existing bequestors who are part of the Cardinal Gilroy Society (CGS) and organise related events as required.

This role will be reporting to the Director, Development and Fundraising Office.

This role is permanent full time position and is based at the Polding Centre, Sydney CBD. 

The primary responsibilities of the Bequest Manager will be responsible for but not limited to the following duties:

  • Build a pipeline of potential bequestors and major donors through innovative acquisition strategies and target donors identified from data analysis.
  • Cultivate, steward and nurture relationships with prospective and existing donors
  • Advance donor understanding of our faith and our works, and helping them see the impact their gift could make both in the Church and in the community
  • Develop, implement and manage the bequest engagement program, including responsible for all policies and procedures.
  • Achieve KPIs set out by the Director of the Development and Fundraising Office, and have the ability and confidence to make “the ask”.
  • Experience with data and CRMs (ideally with ThankQ).
  • Ensure donor records are updated and clean – including all interactions, correspondence and most importantly bequest status (considering, confirmed and complete)

  • Provide bequest reports, with accurate pipeline projections, and records of bequests received.
  • Internal and External stakeholder engagement, including donors, Catholic agencies and parishes.
  • Work with the Fundraising and Marketing Manager to build archive of bequestor testimonials.
  • Provide general fundraising and administrative support.
  • Any other duties as assigned
