About the role

  • Impactful communications role
  • Bold, optimistic & action-oriented team
  • Full-time or 0.8, flexible work options

The Health Issues Centre (HIC) is the peak consumer health advocacy body in Victoria. They seek to deliver positive health outcomes with and for consumers by influencing health policy, service design and health and medical research. HIC relies on deep and broad engagement with consumers, with an emphasis on those who are most vulnerable and marginalised, to inform its policy positions and priorities. They deliver skills-based training, consultancy services and research to clients across the health industry and their goal is to create a better healthcare system that serves people, not institutions. They do this by listening; through mediating crowd conversations, extracting insights from the white noise, and using human-centred design to create people-centred solutions.

Reporting to the Manager Policy and Advocacy, the Communications Specialist is responsible for producing, commissioning and repurposing a range of communications materials for a variety of audiences across both traditional and digital channels.

The Communications Specialist will manage the HIC communication schedule and generate and repurpose content for all HIC communication platforms including newsletters, website and social media. You will produce PR materials for external media including media releases and opinion pieces and develop posts and creative campaigns using social media channels. You will also oversee quality control for all products including reports, tender applications and other communications documents.

This important and hands-on role requires a self-motivated communications professional who is adept and comfortable with copywriting, editing, stakeholder engagement, website and social media management, and content development. You will be confident, decisive and creative, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities, and work in a digital environment using a variety of digital tools (e.g., Survey Monkey, Email marketing software, Zoho). You are known for your exemplary written communication skills and the ability to repurpose high quality content for various audiences across a range of platforms. Qualifications in public relations, communications, journalism, marketing or public health are desirable. Familiarity with the health system and an understanding of contemporary health issues would be an advantage.

Health Issues Centre actively promotes diversity and inclusion and is an equal opportunity workplace. We welcome applicants from all diverse backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and people with disabilities. Flexible work options and salary packaging benefits are available when you join this innovative not-for-profit organisation.

APPLY NOW if you are a driven and enthusiastic communications professional and want to join a small but passionate team who listen to people and champion real improvements to the healthcare system in Australia.
