Australian Red Cross

Australian Red Cross is part of the world’s largest humanitarian movement seeking to build a better society based on people helping people. Red Cross has been responding to emergencies and providing humanitarian assistance in Australia since 1914. We are committed to strengthening and extending our emergency services to assist all Australians to prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies. The Australian Red Cross Emergency Services program includes the provision of direct services, capacity building, advocacy, and research activities, which focus on minimising the human impacts of disasters and emergencies. Now is a dynamic time to join Australian Red Cross as we refresh our strategy and look towards how we could position ourselves to respond to the increasing frequency and severity of disasters and emergencies in response to our changing climate.

The Opportunity

As the State Emergency Services Manager you will have strategic and operational accountability to lead and drive the implementation of the Australian Red Cross Emergency Services program across regional and metro Victoria. You will lead a large team of staff and volunteers to identify and deliver strategic priorities with the State (in-line with the Australian Red Cross Strategy). You will manage the delivery and review of services to meet obligations under local and state emergency management arrangements, while building and maintaining strong partnerships with key sector stakeholders. In this role you will be an integral member of the National Emergency Services Leadership Team, contributing to Red Cross’s strategic direction and development of national capability.

About You

You will be an experienced leader who is a strategic thinker who can build effective relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, from local community groups to state government. You will have highly developed organisational, people and financial management skills. With previous experience in people and program management within emergency or community services, you will have designed and delivered programs of work in response to emergent community needs. Additionally you will have developed the ability to make sound decisions in high pressure and reactive environments. You possess a strong understanding of community development approaches, and a genuine passion for building and developing a highly engaged, skilled and diverse volunteer workforce across Victoria.

Play a pivotal role in assisting all Australians to prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies. This is an exciting and rare opportunity to make a difference.
