About the role
The Accommodation Support Worker provides structured support to young people who are accommodated at Frontyard. The position is responsible for engaging and supporting young people in a way that promotes their strengths and empowers them, to achieve their goals. The position is provides day to day assistance in running of the accommodation, maintaining a safe, positive and welcoming program environment and helping young people to achieve their goals.
Must be able to work across morning, afternoon and night shifts 7 days per week.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Work toward client goals, in partnership with Frontyard’s case management, housing support and mental health teams, in partnership with young people.
- Respond appropriately to young people presenting with difficult and challenging behaviours: managing crises and incidents.
- Conduct risk assessments and create innovative and proactive responses to risks identified.
- Deliver programs and support in an accommodation setting that foster young peoples’ independence and build on their strengths and skills.
About the program
Frontyard Youth Services is a specialist youth service providing a range of multidisciplinary programs to disrupting disadvantage and meeting the holistic needs of young people aged between 12 and 24 years who experiencing homelessness. Frontyard aims to support young people to meet their physical, emotional and social needs and to develop pathways out of homelessness.
This role sits within Frontyard’s Accommodation Program a longer-term therapeutic housing option for young people to disrupt the cycle of homelessness that they are experiencing. The program works from a healing oriented, strengths-based framework and focuses on working with young people to reach their goals and exit the homelessness service system.
Skills and experience
- Tertiary qualifications in youth work, community development or social work or related qualification or extensive community sector experience.
- A clear understanding of working within a key worker framework including intake, assessment and ongoing support processes.
- Understanding or experience working with young people experiencing homelessness, including knowledge of trauma informed or healing oriented approaches.
- Strong ability to actively and assertively engage young people with complex needs, particularly in an accommodation environment.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills encompassing interpersonal, verbal and written, and negotiation skills.
