The Role   YMCA Victoria (the Y) is a part of a global network that empowers young people and builds connections to community. With over 8,000 staff and volunteers, the Y delivers services at more than 150 locations every day in settings including camps, community recreation,  sporting facilities, swimming pools, before and after school care, early learning centres and youth services. Challenge Our World.”  YMCA Victoria Vision 2025 What we need from a young board director The chair and directors are looking to appoint a young person to the board to bring new skills and perspectives to the Y.  The board strongly believes that age diversity at the governance level helps the Y have different approaches to and views of its community. As a board director you will represent the Y, provide insights and address issues that are relevant to younger Victorians and influence real outcomes. Your contribution at board level will influence how and when young people participate in the Y’s programs and how the Y advocates on their behalf. You will also be able to demonstrate and develop your experience in key governance areas including fiduciary responsibilities, community accountability and movement development. Skills Required   Whatever your career is on a day-to-day basis you’re able to bring to the board a contemporary knowledge of your generation. You’re connected with an increasingly changing world and up-to date with social trends and attitudes. You’re able to demonstrate a commitment to a cause, a community, a brand and most importantly you have a passion for the Ys objectives and the vision to empower young people. Ideally but not essential you have some experience in board governance or committee involvement Term:  Three-year term, option of standing for re-election (maximum nine-year tenure) Your commitment: Monthly meetings, weekly currently, 8-12 hours per month. Our commitment: Free sandwiches at every face to face board meeting.
