About the organisation

Organisation Name : Newcastle Anglican

Newcastle Anglican is the overarching body for well-known organisations including Anglican Care, the Samaritans, Newcastle Anglican Schools Corporation and Anglican parishes, working primarily in the Hunter and Central Coast regions of NSW.  Led by the Anglican Bishop of Newcastle, Newcastle Anglican employs over 2500 people and engages with over 10,000 people weekly through its activities in many sectors and across all ages. With a combined budget of over $225 million, it works in aged and disability care, child development and protection, community development, education, and Christian ministry, and is a large property owner through a trustee organisation, as well as operating a religious charitable development fund.

About the role

  • Large scale organisational leadership role across diverse business units
  • Placing the people we support and serve at the centre of work
  • Location: Hunter/Central Coast Region

Following a recent governance realignment, Newcastle Anglican has focused its operational governance in one Board chaired by the Bishop, with an integrated operational leadership team of seven Executive Directors, led by the Diocesan Executive Officer (DEO). This complex leadership role, reporting to the Bishop and the Board, is pivotal to the success of Newcastle Anglican in providing high quality services to a diverse client base.

The DEO will exercise the critical and influential role of leading Newcastle Anglican’s aged, disability and welfare agencies, its schools, and its central administration.  The DEO will lead the executive leadership team to execute a significant strategic, operational and change agenda – along with creating and implementing sustainable strategic plans and promoting a culture of performance through continuous improvement.

Key priorities for the DEO will include delivering consistently accredited, financially sustainable, safe and quality services, education, and ministry; operating within an agreed risk framework; and engaging and empowering people to have a positive impact.

Candidates will need high level executive experience in a multifaceted service organisation with diverse stakeholder groups in aged care, disability, child protection or related fields, combined with Chief Executive or equivalent experience in business leadership and management.  Extensive experience in strategic and effective change leadership in a complex operating environment will be essential, as well as the demonstrated ability to understand risk and reward at the enterprise level, and in undertaking financial management and developing business, capability and resource plans.

The DEO will need a strong alignment with the vision, values and core practices of Newcastle Anglican, demonstrating their personal alignment with the ethos of Newcastle Anglican.

Applications close on 7 November.
