About the role

We’re looking for a Senior Manager Evaluation & Evidence with relevant experience to join the Brotherhood of St Laurence’s Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) team based in Fitzroy, but working remotely during lockdown.

The Brotherhood of St Laurence (BSL) has a clear vision – an Australia free of poverty.

For almost 90 years, we have worked with policy makers and the community for systemic change that will prevent and alleviate poverty in Australia.

We are passionate about the work we do.

We strive to create change that lasts for a more compassionate and just society – a society in which we can all fully participate in social, civic and economic life with the dignity and respect we all deserve.

WHO ARE YOU?

You’re an experienced manager with a proven background in designing and implementing evaluation frameworks. You are a strategic thinker, flexible, enjoy developing and implementing agendas in deep collaboration with others. You are comfortable working with multiple teams and stakeholders. You are driven to see evidence lead to real world change.

WHO ARE WE?

The MEL team is situated within the BSL’s Research and Policy Centre (RPC), which is the longest running and largest social policy research centre in a non-government community sector organisation in Australia. The MEL team advances the BSL’s mission to effect systemic change by contributing and connecting diverse expertise to enable adaptive learning powering innovation and impact. We do this by collaborating with partners in policy, service development and research to:

  • Develop and implement outcomes monitoring frameworks for practice areas, services and systems change initiatives
  • Strategically and rigorously evaluate our service models and change initiatives to understand and demonstrate our impact
  • Cultivate and embed a learning culture through the development of inclusive platforms, reflective practice tools, and curated resources
  • Promote and apply ethical MEL practices that expand the capability of BSL staff, partners, and service participants

WHAT’S THE OPPORTUNITY?

We are seeking a Senior Manager Evaluation & Evidence to play a lead role in the design of an organisational evaluation framework and oversee its successful implementation across the BSL’s diverse service portfolios. This will involve developing supporting policies, processes and resources and working with senior managers in each portfolio to strategically commission service reviews and evaluations.

To achieve this, the Senior Manager will build strong working relationships with portfolio leads, service managers and practitioners to plan, undertake or oversee evaluations and service reviews that reflect the diverse goals, needs and capabilities of our services. The Senior Manager will contribute to cultivating an active learning culture across the BSL where we routinely distil and engage with evidence to adapt and improve our service models and change initiatives.

This is a permanent full-time position working 38 hours per week. Salary will be in the range of $97,449.21 – $110,000 per annum, based on skills and experience plus superannuation, with attractive salary packaging options.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

Passion for supporting the mission of BSL, and delivering excellence in your role, are just the start.

To be considered for the role and be successful in it, we’re looking for someone who has the following key skills and experiences:

  • Postgraduate qualification or specialized training in evaluation or related field such as sociology, economics, statistics or other social science;
  • Extensive experience commissioning and undertaking evaluations of human and community services;
  • A track record of successfully delivering a portfolio of projects and managing change initiatives;
  • Experience working directly with practitioners to build evaluation capability including convening planning and training seminars and workshops;
  • Excellent written communication skills including an ability to develop content using appropriate mediums for a range of audiences;
  • A passion for developing, understanding and harnessing evidence to improve service delivery, inform decision making and influence systems change to end poverty in all its forms;

BENEFITS

  • Extensive salary packaging options to reduce amount of tax you pay
  • Career development opportunities
  • Leave loading of 17.5%
  • Flexible working arrangements
  • Employee Assistance Program

CULTURE

BSL employees enjoy a range of flexible work options and other attractive benefits. Recognising that there is no ‘one size fits all’ pattern of work–life balance, the organisation endeavours to provide options to suit the needs of all staff.
