About the program

The Men’s Project is an initiative of Jesuit Social Services launched in 2017. It provides leadership on the reduction of violence and other harmful behaviours prevalent among boys and men, and builds approaches to improve their wellbeing and keep families and communities safe.

Our vision is for engaged men, respectful relationships and safe communities.

We aim to achieve this by:

  • research to better understand the attitudes and behaviours of boys and young men;
  • promoting positive change related to gender norms and what it means to be a man in the 21st century; and
  • designing, piloting and evaluating interventions that intervene earlier to fill crucial gaps in the services system including related to adolescent family violence and child sexual abuse prevention 

The Men’s Project builds on Jesuit Social Services’ over 40-year engagement with boys and men in trouble. 

About the role

The Men’s Project is seeking a Training Practitioner & Manager – Primary Prevention Education and Community Engagement to lead a team to design, develop, evaluate and continuously improve educational programs that address and challenge stereotypical masculine norms. The role requires someone with deep knowledge and experience in primary prevention of family violence, and experience in developing, documenting, and evaluating curricula. The successful candidate will also have responsibility for establishing and extending partnerships in order to grow our existing programs. 

The role will contribute to efforts to build knowledge of what works including through internal evaluation of The Men’s Project’s programs in collaboration with stakeholders. The successful candidate will also contribute to funding applications, submissions, and other communications, media and advocacy efforts including digital/ social media and stakeholder consultations.

Candidate Requirements

This role will suit a candidate with the following skills and experience:

  • Knowledge and experience in the development, documentation, delivery, evaluation and continuous improvement of evidence-based educational programs;
  • Knowledge and experience in the primary prevention of family violence (experience in the gendered drivers of violence and the role of stereotypical masculine norms is an advantage), and experience delivering primary prevention programs;
  • Highly organised and excellent project management skills (including managing a pipeline of projects from initial contact through design, delivery, evaluation and outcomes reporting);
  • Facilitation expertise (role will facilitate/co-facilitate training and workshops);
  • Superior interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills (experience in building relationships which lead to funding will be viewed favourably);
  • Ability to think proactively and innovatively;
  • Superior written communication skills;
  • Public speaking/presentation/ skills and experience in content design;
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team;
  • Understanding and sympathy and a demonstrated capacity to provide leadership in the mission and ethos of Jesuit Social Services;
  • Relevant tertiary qualification/s;
  • Capacity to fulfil reporting and administrative requirements associated with the position;
  • Valid Working with Children Check card;
  • Current driver’s license;
  • Successfully completed Police Check to be conducted by Jesuit Social Services prior to commencement.
