Comm Unity Plus Services Ltd (operating as commUnity+) is a multidisciplinary organisation located in Melbourne’s western suburbs, delivering a range of prevention and early intervention programs focused on informing and engaging with our community. This is achieved via high quality Adult Education, Legal Services (Brimbank Melton Community Legal Centre), our Neighbourhood House program and Children’s Contact Service, as well as a range of community and individual development activities.

Our services are pivotal to building social capital and the agency of people living in Melbourne’s western region.

About the role

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the General Manager, Family and Community Services is a key leadership role responsible for the development and implementation of integrated client service programs which support commUnity+ vision to promote health and wellbeing, social inclusion, economic participation, community development, and engagement and social justice for people living in the West. This role will work with the CEO, the Executive Team and staff to ensure the effective provision of quality integrated services that meet evolving community needs, and deliver against contracted funding arrangements.

This position will provide strategic leadership, overall supervision and support to the Program Managers and staff of the Family and Community Services Division and will work collaboratively and in partnership with relevant stakeholders to identify best practice service delivery to meet the evolving needs of one of Victoria’s fastest growing regions in a diverse population where more than more than 160 languages are represented.

This role will further lead and facilitate the establishment of a framework to amplify the voices of diverse communities in everything we do across our governance, operations, service delivery and advocacy.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Relevant Tertiary Qualification(s) and a minimum of 5 years’ work experience in a management role in multi-disciplinary programs at CEO, General Manager/Executive or a senior management position overseeing the delivery of programs, preferably in a community, for-purpose, or government organisation.
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of community programs with particular focus on family and community services.
  • Demonstrated experience managing high-level negotiations with funding bodies and other relevant stakeholder groups
  • Experience in managing programs with complex and multiple compliance requirements for relevant legislation, government policy, industry requirements and internal standards, including experience in the mitigation of compliance risks and development of compliance reporting.
  • Exposure in managing change within program areas to achieve efficient business practices and organisational goals effectively.
  • Independently managing time, prioritising and planning work to meet set timelines in an environment of competing priorities.
  • Proven ability in successfully managing large and small teams with diverse experience and multi-locations in a team-oriented environment focused on achieving program outcomes.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and relate to a diverse range of people in the community and within the organisation, including demonstrated application of highly developed oral and written communication abilities in the areas of negotiation, conflict resolution and relationship development.

Additionally, membership with a relevant professional body, experience in developing integrated service delivery models, and familiarity with Community Legal Centres, Neighbourhood House Program, Children’s Contact Services, would be desirable for this role.

Applicants must hold a valid Working with Children Check and a Police check or the ability to obtain the same. A current Driver’s License and the ability to travel between offices and outreach sites is essential for this role.
