About the role
People and Culture at St Jude’s
The People and Culture team at St Jude’s was established just over one year ago. It is not your typical HR team. The aim of People and Culture is to enhance the culture and spirit of the entire St Jude’s community through encouragement, morale-boosting and community-based activities. We lead the school’s Sport Program and provide guidance to extra-curricular clubs to ensure St Jude’s students receive a holistic education. We also build lasting and positive relationships with our neighbours, the surrounding community, the Tanzanian government and people of importance.

What you’ll do
- As the Head of People and Culture, your outstanding project management skills will be put to use every day and you will embrace various new initiatives thrown your way; no challenge is too great!
- Your four key focus areas will be overseeing St Jude’s Spirit Program, boosting staff morale, leading the Sports Program and enhancing the school’s holistic approach to education through extracurricular clubs.
- You will work within our Head Office to lead and support a diverse team of five people, ensuring all jobs are tracked effectively and stakeholders are aware of progress.
- You will oversee our newly formed Sport Program across our three schools, ensuring an international school-standard program is implemented and all students are provided with a well-rounded education.
- You will manage the sport and coaching staff as well as increase students’ engagement in sports and extra-curricular activities.
- You will support both staff and students in joining extra-curricular clubs that help to stimulate talents, develop 21st century skills and build self-confidence through proactive planning and time-management.
- You will drive the St Jude’s Spirit Program which seeks to recognise and appreciate those who go above and beyond in giving back to the school.
- You will develop community engagement strategies and seek to improve relationships with the local government, community members and people of importance in Tanzania.
- You will encourage professional development for academic and non-academic staff and support both sides in enhancing already established programs to ensure the school achieves its Strategic Plan goals.
- You will identify ways to improve staff morale and the school’s working environment through team-bonding initiatives, relationship building, recognition programs and positive feedback channels.
- You will support St Jude’s local marketing efforts and brand awareness by enhancing the reputation of the school with local authorities, media outlets, local businesses and corporates.
- You will create and manage the People and Culture budget.
What we’re looking for
- 3+ years’ experience in a similar role at a similar level.
- Tertiary qualifications, or equivalent experience, in community development, sports management, project management, or business.
- Demonstrated success in community development or staff more-boosting activities, particularly in the charity sector.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication and relationship management skills, with the ability to oversee a variety of projects.
- Demonstrated ability to establish warm, constructive working relationships with co-workers and stakeholders through collaboration and networking.
- Understanding of international school sport programs and events involving multiple sports and teams.
- Demonstrated experience in project management including planning, monitoring and evaluation.
- Proven ability to contribute to a cohesive team environment by sharing information, supporting team priorities and ensuring open communication.
- Naturally inquisitive, thrives on troubleshooting and finding creative solutions.
- A natural born leader, with strong organisational skills, impeccable attention to detail and ability to manage time efficiently.
- Comfortable liaising at all levels with internal and external stakeholders.
- Leadership experience or training.
- Knowledge and understanding of an international school’s curriculum, specifically in the area of sports, school camps and/or extra-curricular clubs.
- A passion for sport, coaching, health, outdoor education and non-academic subjects with a desire to provide equal opportunities for underprivileged students.
- Experience building relationships and working with government leaders and people of importance in Tanzania or East Africa.
- Experience coordinating events and team-building activities for adults, or school camps for students.
