About the role

We’re looking for a professional Senior Research Officer with relevant experience who wants to join the BSL’s Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) team based in Fitzroy.

WHO ARE WE?

The MEL team is situated within the BSL’s Research and Policy Centre (RPC), which is the longest running and largest social policy research centre in a non-government community sector organisation in Australia. The MEL team advances the BSL’s mission to effect systemic change by integrate diverse expertise to enable adaptive learning powering impact. We do this by collaborating with partners in policy, service development and research to:

  • Develop and implement outcomes monitoring frameworks for practice areas, services and systems change initiatives;
  • Strategically and rigorously evaluate our service models and change initiatives to understand and demonstrate our impact;
  • Cultivate and embed a learning culture through the development of inclusive platforms, reflective practice tools, and curated resources;
  • Promote and apply ethical MEL practices that expand the capability of BSL staff, partners, and service participants

 

WHAT’S THE OPPORTUNITY?

We are seeking a Senior Research Officer to conduct evaluations of innovative service models and build evaluation capability among services at BSL by supporting the development of guides, resources and collaborative learning processes. The role will start by leading the developmental evaluation of the Better Health and Housing Program (BHHP), an integrated transitional health and housing program for people aged 40 and older experiencing homelessness and with chronic health issues. This will involve working closely with program stakeholders, staff and participants of BHHP to enable their participation in distilling insights supporting the ongoing development of the model and the assessment of model effectiveness.

 

This is a permanent part time position working 30.4 hours per week

Salary will be in the range of $93,154.77-$97,269.24 pro rata per annum, based on skills and experience plus superannuation, with attractive salary packaging options.

To be considered for the role and be successful in it, we’re looking for someone who has the following key skills and experiences:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification with significant expertise in a related role conducting evaluations within human / health / community services;
  • An ability to critically assess and design data collection tools and practices and a familiarity with various outcomes measurement approaches;
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating discussions and workshops to support services in clarifying program logics, theories of change & outcomes and generating evaluative insights;
  • Developed knowledge of relevant ethical research practices and codes;
  • Knowledge of or capacity to quickly develop knowledge of current issues and debates in homelessness and housing and its intersection with chronic health conditions.
