About the organisation
Established in 1974, Williamstown Community and Education Centre Inc has been servicing the community for more than 48 years.
We manage two houses, Joan Kirner House and Spotswood Community House.
Our two houses provide support, skill development and social activities. We deliver quality adult education programs that reflect the interests and needs of all sectors of our community
We have a strong commitment to the use of new technologies to improve learning outcomes for our community.
Our aim is to supply affordable, quality programs in a supportive, comfortable environment for our community.
We offer a variety of courses, programs, support and user groups as well as childcare, playgroups and programs for those with a disability.
We won a Victorian Training Award last year as well as a teacher being a finalist in a Learn Local Award, We have also won a Hobsons Bay Business Excellence Award and received 100% compliance on our last VRQA audit.
About the role
PURPOSE:
Coordinate the education and training activities and programs of the Williamstown Community and Education Centre across several sites in Melbourne’s inner west.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
The applicant is expected to have skills and experience in the following areas:
- Student management systems. We use VETtrak and VETonline.
- Knowledge and experience with Skills First Program. Our accredited scope is Certificate in EAL (Access).
- Knowledge and experience with ACFE pre-accredited training as a Learn Local.
- Knowledge and experience with the Federal Skills for Education and Training program.
- Knowledge and experience in VRQA and AQTF compliance.
- The ability to coordinate, direct and support all those involved with the Education Program of the Centre.
- Knowledge and experience in supervising and monitoring staff performance.
- Knowledge of Neighbourhood House / Community Centre sectors.
KEY TASKS:
- Liaise with the Education Coordinator to ensure the efficient running, strategic thinking and planning of the Centre Programs and operations.
- Ensure all Centre Programs are in line with current AQTF and VRQA guidelines and compliance requirements.
- Ensure current Skills First, ACFE and SEE contract and agreement requirements are understood, met and complied with, including all relevant Contract Notifications, memos or directives as issued by the Department at any time.
- To assist with the day-to-day coordination of programs, activities of the Centre.
- Supervise teaching staff and organise regular staff meetings/professional development (1 per semester).
- Support centre tutors, volunteers, and students.
- Provide support and counselling to students and clients as required.
- Enrolments – Monitor enrolment numbers, check student’s enrolment eligibility.
- Ensure all accountability requirements of funding bodies and Centre policy are met.
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written and good computer knowledge.
- Ensure relevant policies and documentation are maintained and updated to meet AQTF requirements.
- Internal Audit.
- Liaise with local Centrelink and jobactives. Continue to build on community/industry partnerships and source new partnerships.
- Oversight of teaching resources and equipment. Approve purchases as required, within budget.
- Ensure all Occupational Health and Safety requirements are met.
- Networking and liaison with other local organisations and agencies.
- Promotion of the Centre and its activities.
