About the organisation
The Australian Scholarships Limited (ASL- trading as The Australian Scholarships Foundation) offers scholarships to staff and board members of charitable organisations to improve their ability to lead, manage and govern.
Since 2009 they have facilitated over 4,000 scholarships with the generous support of partner universities, education providers, and funders.
With their partners, they access and make scholarships available in the areas of leadership, management, and governance. These include postgraduate university diplomas, certificate and degree courses, short management and training programs, and mentoring services. Disciplines covered include leadership, finance, accounting and risk management, strategic planning, project management, marketing, and board governance.
These scholarships have helped leaders of Australian charities and their organisations build capabilities to ensure they are delivering for their communities and maximising social impact.

Reporting to the board, representing the organisation externally, and working to the strategic plan, the CEO will lead a team of 7. They will engage for-purpose leaders, philanthropists, government, and education providers to deliver scholarships that enhance leadership capability and the effectiveness of the sector.
ASL are specifically looking for an experienced general manager and an inspiring leader, with a business mindset and the ability to see the ‘big picture’ in a variety of settings. They will lead on strategic and operational management influencing the direction and outcomes of the organisation and create a vision for success. The CEO has ultimate responsibility for the performance of the organisation and will take actions to enhance ASL’s cash flow while keeping the human factor in perspective.
Also important will be experience in leading in a multi-disciplinary role at a senior executive level; strong strategic capabilities, demonstrated relationship management, influencing and networking ability, including conflict resolution and change management; excellent communication skills, political judgement and credibility; a focus on achieving outcomes and delivering results, and sound corporate governance knowledge.
Experience, knowledge & skills
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Strong leadership skills, with proven ability to develop and maintain a collaborative team culture
- An ability to liaise and effectively collaborate with Board members and high-profile external stakeholders
- Experience in developing profitable strategies and implementing vision
- Demonstrable experience in the for-purpose sector
- Skills in relationship development and management and be able to build engagement across a diverse set of stakeholder groups
- A commitment to the ASF goal of maximising impact through the building capacity within the for-purpose sector
