About the role
This role is pivotal to reaching our vision – ‘to create a disability confident Australia as a national peak body’. As the Media and Public Affairs Officer your role would involve finding opportunities to increase Australian Network on Disability’s awareness and promote our skills, primarily through earned channels.
Tasks include –
- Developing and pitching opportunities to the media as well as responding to media requests for information.
- Searching for opportunities to increase brand awareness through partnerships and storytelling through our members.
- Analysing trends and the Australian media landscape to develop and deliver meaningful and relevant content.
- Finding and submitting opportunities for the team to speak at events and / or enter competitions.
- Driving an earned media strategy including growing an engaged community for each of our relevant audiences.
- Working closely with our CEO to help to identify government opportunities and / or influencing policy through communications.
Key deliverables of the role
- Communications strategy and reporting
- Compelling communications and strong relationships with media and Government stakeholders
- Creation of media releases, media briefs, articles, presentations, award submission, speeches and social media content.
- Ability to find the PR story inside an organisation and bring the story to life across the appropriate channels.
- Media tracking and reporting to ensure the organisation is kept abreast of key relevant issues.
- Utilise trends in media and culture to develop opportunities to shape, pitch and secure stories in the broadcast, print and online media.
- Identify and build impactful member stories for use across media platforms, with considerations of internal and member objectives.
Qualifications and capabilities
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations, media, or similar field (or equivalent experience).
- At least 5 years in a similar role with a proven track record of success and continuous improvement.
- Understanding of the Australian media landscape and experience in engaging the media.
- Ability to meet KPIs by developing strategy, tracking and adjusting activity and reporting on results.
- Ability to work autonomously
