The Epilepsy Foundation provides information and support, education and training, social and psychological research, and advocacy for people living with epilepsy and their families.
  
Your brief is to develop significant, sustainable growth in income to complement the organisation’s broadening strategic programs. The role will be supported by a Fundraising Manager, Events/Community Fundraising Coordinator, and a Data Assistant.
  
Appropriately qualified, you are highly experienced in all phases of the donor life cycle. You have extensive networks and connections, thanks to your superlative influencing and relationship building abilities.

2.         Position summary   
The Head of Fundraising role is responsible for all fundraising activities undertaken by the Epilepsy Foundation, apart from the Comprehensive Campaign. The objective is to develop significant, sustainable growth in fundraising revenue and to substantially increase the number of donors giving to the organisation.
  
  
3.         Key responsibilities   
The position is responsible for:
  
3.1  General

  • Working closely with the CEO and Board to develop the strategic direction and management of all fundraising within the Epilepsy Foundation
  • Participate and contribute positively as a member of the Epilepsy Foundation Executive.
  • Facilitate the involvement of the Chief Executive Officer, members of any Major Appeals or Gifts Committee, members of the Epilepsy Foundation Board, and executive (senior) staff in aspects of the fundraising program, as appropriate
  • Leading and managing the fundraising team
  • Scoping, implementation, monitoring and continuous improvement across all aspects of donor engagement and stewardship
  • Establishing income and expenditure budgets for all aspects of fundraising
  • Working closely with and providing transactional support to the Comprehensive Campaign.
  • Leading and managing the Foundation’s Major Gift program for operations leveraging off Comprehensive Campaign donors as appropriate
  • The acquisition and retention of donors within the fundraising programs
  • Developing and maintaining strategic partnerships to increase EF’s access to a variety of distribution channels
  • Preparing corporate partnership and funding proposals, and developing appropriate promotional materials
  • The implementation of systems for evaluating the effectiveness of fundraising projects
  • Keeping abreast of trends within the fundraising sphere
  • Working collaboratively with Epilepsy Foundation staff

  
4.         Position dimensions   
  
4.1      Level of supervision/accountability
The Direct Line Manager monitors the performance of this position on a regular basis. The incumbent is required to demonstrate sound judgement to effectively prioritise the workload and to maintain a high quality in the service they provide.
The precise Key Performance Indicators will be determined through the Supervision and Support Program in conjunction with the CEO. These can be varied from time to time depending on the focus required from the organisation.
  
4.2      Decision-making authority
The incumbent has the authority to decide day-to-day work related issues within the key responsibilities and duties. A budget and expenditure responsibility may be allocated for particular activities of the role in managing income and expenditure. All other decision making relating to expenditure, staffing, media (etc.), must be in line with the EF delegation of authority. Any issues falling outside these areas are to be referred to the Line Manager.

4.3      Flexible work hours and travel (if applicable)
In order to meet the requirements of this role the Head of Fundraising may be required to maintain flexible work hours and is entitled to negotiate flexible working conditions under Fair Work laws. The Head of Fundraising may be required to undertake travel.
  
  
5.         Position competencies/selection criteria:   
To be successful in this role you will need the confidence to deal with a diverse and changing work agenda with enthusiasm and flexibility demonstrating:
  
5.1      Personal characteristics

  • An experienced fundraising professional with demonstrated success in growing fundraising results, building capability, and driving change.
  • Motivated, committed and outcomes focussed
  • Exemplary professional conduct including honesty and integrity
  • The ability to build strong relationships with a range of diverse stakeholders.

 
5.2      Qualifications

  • Appropriate qualifications in fundraising, business, marketing /or relevant experience
  • A member of FIA desirable

  
5.3      Knowledge and experience

  • At least 5 years experience in a senior management role
  • Developing relationships with major stakeholders that generated significant income
  • Leading and managing a team

  
  
5.4      Professional and technical skills

  • Expertise in the donor life cycle
  • Highly effective interpersonal skills, incorporating verbal and written communication, drive, creativity, initiative, resilience, influence, empathy and diplomacy.
  • The ability to ask for a major gift.
  • The ability to prepare and deliver presentations, tenders, proposals, submissions and operational plans.
  • The ability to develop income and expenditure budgets, providing regular updated income/expenditure forecasts.
  • The ability to work both autonomously and as an effective team member, incorporating effective time management skills, meeting deadlines and achieving quality outcomes.
