About the role

The Australian Community Workers Association (ACWA) is the professional association for qualified community work practitioners. It is a membership organisation, the purpose of which is to ensure that members benefit from belonging to a profession that is widely recognised and valued in the community. The national office is based in the Melbourne CBD

ACWA is also a skill assessing authority for Department Home Affairs.

As an assessment officer you will work with other team members to assess skills of those wishing to demonstrate that they meet the eligibility criteria for membership or wishing to demonstrate that they have the qualification, skills, and industry experience for migration purposes.

In your role you will need:

  • a tertiary qualification in community or human services
  • a good knowledge of and experience in the community sector
  • an understanding of the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF)
  • good time management skills
  • an ability to prioritise workloads
  • to enjoy working in a small team.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Assessment Officer

Hours: 15 hours per week (with the option to work additional hours)

Salary package based on industry experience

Location: Level 2, 190 Queen Street, Melbourne. 3000 (with flexible work from home arrangements)

Reports: Assessments Manager

Position summary

ACWA is the professional association for the community work profession. As such it sets standards for the education and professional practice of community workers. ACWA conducts assessments for membership eligibility and assesses the qualifications and industry experience of potential migrants applying for visas. ACWA is the authorised assessing agency for Welfare Worker, Welfare Centre Manager, Community Worker, Youth Worker, Family Support Worker, Residential Care Officer, and Disabilities Services Officer.

Position responsibilities

  • Conducting skill assessments for migration purposes against ACWA Skill Assessment Guidelines
  • Conducting membership eligibility assessments against ACWA Membership Eligibility Guidelines
  • Maintaining and updating records of skill assessment and membership applicants
  • Supporting ongoing development of member services
  • Engaging in the continuous improvement of the day to day functioning of ACWA’s quality management system
  • Contributing to the periodic review of guidelines and service provision
  • Liaising with external stakeholders such as other assessing agencies, government departments, employers, and migration agents
  • Working collaboratively with the assessment team/s.

Requirements of the role.:

Applicants must:

  • hold a tertiary qualification in human services, welfare, social work or similar;
  • have experience and knowledge of the community services sector;
  • have experience in using and maintaining CRM’s;
  • have a demonstrable understanding of the Australian VET and tertiary education sectors and the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF);
  • be self-motivated, able to manage their time, prioritise workloads, problem solve, seek support; and
  • have a successful track record of working within a team-based environment oriented to achieving organisational objectives and policies

Key selection criteria

  • Relevant tertiary qualification
  • Experience and knowledge of the community services sector
  • Experience with CRM’s
  • Experience and knowledge of the VET and tertiary education sector and the Australian Qualifications Framework
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage own time and priorities
  • Excellent verbal, including telephone, written communication skills
  • Advanced computer skills
