Climateworks Centre, co-founded by The Myer Foundation and Monash University in 2009, has played a unique role in Australia’s, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific’s transition to a net-zero future. Operating within the Monash Sustainable Development Institute (MSDI) Climateworks bridges research and action and is a trusted advisor to powerful decision-makers across governments, business, and finance. Respected for its specialist analysis and engagement capabilities, Climateworks is seeking to drive system-level change in line with what is required to keep global warming below 1.5 degrees.
  
Climateworks convenes and facilitates relationships with influential decision-makers within an international network of organizations that supports effective policies, financing, and action for emissions reductions at scale. Climateworks provides tailored information and tools, to remove obstacles and help facilitate conditions that support the transition to a prosperous, net-zero emissions future.

The Role
  
The head of strategy leads the development of the strategic goals, impact monitoring and evaluation, and modelling of decarbonisation trajectories at sectoral and national levels. Reporting to the CEO and sitting on the executive team, you will provide expert advice at both strategic and operational levels and represent Climateworks externally within specialist forums and with funders.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Leading the design, implementation, and review of Climateworks strategic goals
  • Ensuring Climateworks’ resources are being allocated to maximize impact and system change
  • Overseeing development and implementation of an impact/MEL framework
  • Providing synthesis reporting on impact, system monitoring, and learning
  • Leading, developing, and managing research, analysis, and modelling team to increase impact
  • Supporting fundraising and communications by highlighting impact and capabilities
  • Representing Climateworks in forums, with philanthropic funders, and partners
  • Collaborating with Monash researchers and educators to progress toward a low carbon economy

  
Skills Required
  
With a proven commitment to the fight against climate change or sustainability, you will be a climate strategist within a large program portfolio with management and senior leadership experience, but most importantly you can demonstrate your ability to make strategic decisions to shape a portfolio of programs to influence system change. You also have experience developing and operationalizing strategy and driving board-level strategic reviews, with success in empowering high ambition outcomes through collaboration with others.
  
Additionally you have:
  

  • Led on provision of technical/economic data analysis, and presented to decision-makers
  • Designed programs in multiple contexts for affecting change and delivering results
  • Expertise in implementation assessment and impact evaluation
  • An entrepreneurial spirit with proven ability to innovate and champion new ideas
  • Cross-sectoral collaboration experience
  • Demonstrated business and finance acumen as part of a leadership team
  • Track record of motivating and developing high-performing teams
  • High levels of judgment and initiative in designing and shaping major projects
  • Excellent Interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to negotiate and influence
