Organisation Name : The Observership Program

The purpose of The Observership Program is to create an active and engaged network of socially aware emerging leaders for potential Not-for-profit board roles in the future.

Founded in 2014, The Observership Program provides training and practical experience in not-for-profit board leadership and ongoing networking opportunities to create a passionate and motivated community of future leaders.

Over 900 Observers have participated in the Sydney and Melbourne Programs, observing on the boards of over 200 not-for-profit organisations. 2022 sees a pilot program launched in Brisbane.

The Melbourne Program is in its sixth year with 88 boards and 96 Observers participating in 2022 and a growing membership of corporate and government partners. In addition to the seasonal cycle of Observer candidate applications, application assessments, interviews and matching candidates with boards for the following year, there are special projects on foot, including a national Alumni and Mentoring Program, researching and applying for funding, seeking new strategic partnerships with Government, NFPs and Corporates as well as leadership and governance training providers. 

About the role

The primary role is to support the work of the Melbourne Program of The Observership Program.

The role will suit a conscientious, collaborative, focussed professional with strong administrative and project management skills including CRM capability, a high level of maturity and EQ and a positive attitude. 

With a small team delivering an ambitious program of work, this new role has been created to enable the organisation to deliver an expanding and developing portfolio of projects alongside core business. Its success relies on a collaborative work culture, an openness to new ideas and ways of working within the parameters of finite budgets and immoveable deadlines.

The role is varied and requires a motivated, high energy, enthusiastic person to navigate a variety of skills and move through the diverse set of the following responsibilities with ease, including:

  • High-level administrative support for the Melbourne Program’s portfolio of projects, including management of applications, assessments, interviews and all aspects of the matching process, securing Melbourne-based corporate and strategic partners, building strategic partnerships for funding as well as developing opportunities for the Program.
  • Co-planning and delivering the Program’s annual launch, training programs and other events.
  • CRM work includes – Inputting into, maintaining, reporting and tracking all aspects of the Victorian Program, including the Alumni & Mentoring Program.
  • Being a reliable key contact person for Victorian Observers and the Program’s not-for-profit organisations in all administrative matters outside of the Melbourne Director’s remit.
  • Supporting marketing and communications activity, including well-thought out promotions, website updates, logos for branding and social media etc.
  • General administrative and operational support across the Melbourne Program including ensuring the annual timetable is adhered to and well communicated to all stakeholders.

The Melbourne Operations Manager’s role relies on a close working relationship with the Program Manager in setting up, maintaining and developing operational systems, processes and support that conform to the same high standards set for the organisation led by the CEO and to the benefit of the whole Program.

The role is located in Melbourne with flexible working hours and an opportunity to work from home.
