MAF transports patients, relief workers, produce, medical supplies, and Christian workers in the world's remotest regions and places of deepest human need - places where flying is not a luxury but a lifeline. We operate in over 30 countries with over 130 planes.

About the role

We are a global organisation, reaching some of the world’s remotest locations. Information Technology is core to our ability to provide secure communication networks, safeguarding data and information within our international aviation operations. Our IT function covers a wide portfolio including software development, business applications, infrastructure, security, and customer support.

We now have an opportunity for an experienced Business Applications and Project Manager to join our team. The location of this role can be based in either our Cairns (Australia) or Ashford (UK) support offices, and hybrid working could also be considered.

Responsibilities

  • As the full-time Business Applications and Projects Manager, you will ensure that standards and quality are set by managing application development, implementation, and support, and that maintenance standards are also adhered to. You will ensure sound technical decisions are made and delivered to agreed timescales and any issues are addressed so as to minimise business impact. You will also develop and maintain road-maps for the organisation’s business applications. 
  • Your project management expertise is also required to oversee IT projects, develop, and establish an agile IT project process, manage project budgets and progress and deliver quality outcomes.
  • In this role you will need to meet the needs of our organisation by developing and maintaining strong working relationships with customers and stakeholders, working closely with application business owners, developing application strategies and plans, providing recommendations, and providing supporting data to aid the decision making process.
  • By managing the Business Applications team, you will oversee staff development and performance, and contribute to the team by actively communicating with team members, participating in team tasks, providing input on proposals for policies, standards, and procedures, and by implementing decisions.
  • The successful candidate should also be self-motivated, passionate, friendly, and an excellent communicator with a ‘can-do’ attitude. You will need to be a person who holds themselves accountable and who is motivated to serve, taking ownership and making sure that tasks are performed accurately and efficiently, and be willing to travel.

Qualifications, Skills, & Experience

Essential:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of practical experience including working in an ITIL environment
  • Good understanding and practical knowledge of functional, user, and regression testing processes
  • Developing software specifications and user stories
  • IT project management experience, preferably managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Good understanding of application development best practices and practical knowledge of service transition processes
  • Ability and willingness to travel to other MAF locations
  • Good communicator. Able to explain complex concepts as appropriate for different audiences
  • Experience coaching and mentoring others
  • Able to provide vision and direction

Desirable:

  • Professional project management qualification
  • IT management qualification or equivalent experience
  • Good understanding and practical knowledge of Change Management standards
  • Leading a software development and support team remotely
  • Working in a cross-cultural environment
  • Vendor selection and procurement experience
