The organisation

The Australian Association of Gerontology (AAG) is a not-for-profit, membership-led organisation operating as the national peak body representing researchers, multidisciplinary professionals, service providers and policy makers from a broad range of professional backgrounds. AAG is also the Corporate Trustee for the AAG Research Trust (the research grant arm of the organisation), as well as being the executive office for the International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics - Asia Oceania Region, and the International Longevity Centre – Australia.

The AAG’ s mission is to be an effective and independent thought leader on issues relating to ageing and longevity, drawing on and giving voice to the expertise of its members. The AAG aims to stimulate ageing and longevity research, assist in shaping the ageing agenda and support service providers and practitioners by connecting research to policy and practice.

First established in 1962, today the Association membership is approaching 1,300 and has divisions established in every State and Territory. The organisation has grown over the last five years and now has a staff of eight, supported by government grants, membership income and gifts to the Research Trust, and has a strategy for further growth.
