GetUp works on a range of campaigns in the areas of First Nations Justice, Climate Justice, Economic Fairness, Human Rights and Democratic Integrity.  From making sure hundreds of thousands of people are able to vote in elections, to successfully stopping major projects threatening the Great Barrier Reef, or securing billions of dollars in new funding for mental health. Whatever they do, they do it with as many people as possible – using their hands, hearts, and voices to fight for justice on the issues that matter most.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is responsible for the design and delivery of the vision, strategy and campaigns of GetUp. This includes managing key and critical relationships with our members, donors, campaign partners, parliamentarians, policy makers and other key stakeholders.

The CEO is responsible for leading a committed and passionate team with a wide range of lived experiences. They are also responsible for leading financial and operational capabilities, as well as organisational growth, all underpinned by solid governance. 
  
Experience, knowledge & skills

To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the mechanisms of political change and leverage, and advocacy experience in one or more of GetUp’s campaign areas. 

You will have strong Executive-level experience with strong people management skills as well as demonstrated business acumen and commercial experience, including strategic planning and financial management.

You will have an ability to anticipate trends and identify opportunities in the issue areas where GetUp campaigns. A strong, big picture grasp of the dynamics of power, justice and equity as it manifests in Australia is crucial in this role.

In addition, you will have a demonstrated commitment to GetUp’s workplace values around political independence, addressing structural inequity and acknowledging the intersectionality of justice. You will have a demonstrated ability to communicate and work with communities affected by the areas we campaign on, as well as experience supporting staff with a diversity of lived experiences.

You will have authentic and credible interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and lead a thriving high performance team, and work with GetUp’s stakeholders to build a strong and engaged community of democratic engagement and activism. 

You will also have an ability to create and communicate an inspiring vision that supports the work GetUp undertakes and helps to influence and engage members, government leaders, policy makers and the wider community.
