Established in 1985 (as the Schizophrenia Fellowship of NSW), One Door Mental Health (One Door/ODMH) was created to help people with schizophrenia and their carers. With a set of principals that are still adhered to, to this day, the organisation currently has more than 250 staff, 50 volunteers and more than 45 offices committed to assisting people with a lived experience of mental illness.
Through the delivery of their Strategic Plan, the majority of their workforce is structured into their purpose-drive approach of self-organising teams. ODMH is dedicated to training and investing in their skilled workforce so they can continue to deliver person centred and recovery focused supports.
Their way of work is called Recovery 2gether; it reflects their mission to create a world where people living with mental illness are valued and treated as equals, and their values and uses self-organising and managed teams to deliver locally responsive services.
Supported by an Operations Lead/Recovery 2getherCoach, team members share tasks and roles, arrange their schedules, and review their progress and the team’s progress together. They act on the needs of individuals and communities, and make the organisation more effective, efficient and sustainable.

The role
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) leads from a place of trust. The COO will provide leadership and operational oversight for all consumer and carer services to ensure optimum performance of all services and programs, including quality service delivery, enhanced consumer and carer outcomes and community satisfaction.
This role will provide the overall guidance on the Recovery 2gether framework, self-organising teams and managed teams, in collaboration with the Executive Team and other key positions. It is also responsible for developing and maintaining internal and external relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders and for identifying and developing new business opportunities in line with the strategic objectives of ODMH.
If you have operational leadership experience in human services, health or community services and a desire to lead an organisation working in purpose-driven ways, this role is for you. Strong leadership, interpersonal and influencing skills to manage and develop internal and external stakeholder relations is critical to success in this role.
The role will require a leader with strong business and problem-solving skills & excellent decision-making skills honed in complex environments. Your understanding of risk management, relevant regulatory environment and general business principles are essential. Tendering for, and management of contracts and related processes, especially in the NDIS ecosystem is highly desirable, as is experience in client-centred funding models.
