About the role

We’re looking for a Cook with relevant experience who wants to join our 2,000+ team of staff and volunteers to make a difference on a part time basis, working two days per week based in Fitzroy.

THE ROLE

The Brotherhood of St Laurence Day and Respite Programs division provides high quality flexible services that assist older people, people who have a disability and carers to access and participate in community life.  Priority is given to those who are socially isolated.

An exciting opportunity exists for enthusiastic and motivated Cook to join a team dedicated to making a real difference to the lives of older adults living in the Fitzroy area.  The Cook is responsible for menu planning, preparing, cooking and serving nourishing, palatable and attractive meals for clients of Day and Respite Programs. Working with the Program Coordinator, this position ensures that the food safety and kitchen hygiene complies with the legislative and Occupational Health and Safety requirements at all times.

Salary will be in the range of $50,775.40 – $52,567.84 pro rata per annum, based on skills and experience plus superannuation.

To be considered for the role and be successful in it, we’re looking for someone who has the following key skills and experiences:

  • Qualification in Hospitality (Commercial Cookery) or other relevant qualification along with experience in a similar position
  • Current Food Safety Supervisor certification in Aged Care
  • Knowledge and experience with special dietary and nutritional requirements including medical conditions, allergies etc. of older people.
  • Knowledge of legislative requirements including Occupational Health & Safety and Food Safety Standards.
  • Proven ability to work with minimal supervision and as an effective team member to achieve objectives
  • Well-developed organisational and time management skills to plan own workload and meet deadlines
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills to liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Understanding of and empathy with the values and ideals of the Brotherhood.
