About the organisation

The NSW Division of the United Nations Association of Australia (unaansw.org.au) - aims to inform, inspire and engage Australians about the work and values of the United Nations, with a view to creating a safer, fairer and more sustainable world.

Our strategic focus is on the UN’s three main pillars—peace & security, human rights and sustainable development—founded on the values of global citizenship. We empower our people and partners to think globally and act locally through events, education, and advocacy.

Our initiatives are guided by the United Nations Charter and the Sustainable Development Goals.

We are a registered charity (founded in 1945) and an independent Division of the United Nations Association of Australia Incorporated (ABN 47 836 436 168) (UNAA National), the peak body for promoting the United Nations in Australia, which in turn is a member of the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA).

WFUNA is a global non-profit organisation representing and coordinating a membership of over 100 national United Nations Associations and their thousands of constituents. It works to strengthen and improve the United Nations through the engagement of people who share a global mindset and support international cooperation.

The long-term objects of UNAA NSW are set out in the Constitution. The Patron of the UNAA NSW is the Governor of New South Wales.

UNAA NSW is a voting member of the United Nations Association of Australia but operates as an independent organisation with its own governance, management, financial accounts and accountability.
