About the organisation
The Women’s and Girls’ Emergency Centre (WAGEC) is a non-government, not-for profit charitable organisation that delivers a range of crisis and early intervention accommodation and support services to women, children, young people, and families who are experiencing, or at risk of homelessness and/or domestic and family violence.
For over 40 years we have been doing this work across the lands of the Gadigal and Wangal people of the Eora Nation (Sydney’s inner city and inner west regions), and working in partnership with community, business, and government stakeholders.
About the role
WAGEC’s Events & Volunteer Program Officer role is ideal for a person who loves to:
- work with diverse groups of people in a busy, dynamic environment;

- use structure and process to get the work done; and
- contribute to creating safer futures for women and families.
This role is responsible for delivering key activities that engage and inspire the growing WAGEC community, including:
- coordinating Walk for WAGEC, our signature community fundraising event;
- strengthening our volunteer program where 100’s of trained volunteers contribute directly to our client services;
- developing new community engagement events; and
- working collaboratively within our Fundraising & Communities Team.
Key Facts:
- The Events & Volunteer Program Officer is responsible for delivering WAGEC’s volunteer program and community events to create mutual benefit for WAGEC’s community and clients. The core responsibilities of this role are:
- Volunteer Program: coordinate WAGEC’s volunteer program (50%)
- Community Events: deliver signature WAGEC events that support our community engagement and fundraising activities (30%)
- Fundraising and Communities Strategy: work collaboratively with the Fundraising and Communities team to deliver our strategy (10%)
- Administration: complete fundraising and communities administration tasks in a timely and thorough manner (5%)
- Actively contribute to WAGEC’s organisational culture (5%)
- Full-time permanent contract, Grade SCAHDS 4,
- Based at our Redfern Office, 1 day/week work from home if desired, occasional after-hours work
- It is a requirement that you have a current Working With Children Check, NSW Drivers Licence & full working rights in Australia
- Due to our operational requirements and planned annual leave, the successful applicant for this role will be required to start by 11 July 2022, or where that is not possible the start date will be 5 September 2022.
