Specialist Consulting at Monash Children’s Hospital provides an extensive range of medical and surgical services, supported by multidisciplinary staff including allied health specialists, diagnostic services and interpreter assistance. We offer care for children with a broad range of complex care requirements in an outpatient setting.

We are now looking to appoint a people leader to oversee the administration, operational and referral management of our Specialist Consulting services at Monash Children’s Hospital.  This role contributes to the strategic direction for Specialist Consulting and provides operational leadership and quality management to optimise the care we provide for all our patients. This role will be appointed on a full time, temporary basis (parental leave backfill).

About the Role

Leading a large, skilled and established team (around 20 EFT) and with accountability for an operational budget of over $1.6 million pa, this is a pivotal role in the Specialist Consulting team.  You’ll relish the chance to work with a variety of stakeholders across a range of specialty paediatric areas. 

This role is responsible for coordinating the end to end outpatient paediatric journey which incorporates referral management, clinic attendance, patient bookings and enquiries whilst working closely with Medical, Nursing and Allied Health colleagues. You will be leading a high functioning team with established processes, there will also be opportunities to drive continuous improvement.  You will be working on a range of projects including, but not limited to: Waitlist audits, Telehealth, and eReferral.

About You

Thriving in a dynamic and fast paced environment, you bring an enthusiastic and driven perspective with superior verbal and non-verbal communication skills, having confidence of decision making steadily resolving escalations that arise through a shift.

You have been developing your management skills OR you are an accomplished manager looking to take on a new exciting role; either way, you are ready to take this next step in your career.

With tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline, you have already built significant capability and you can readily demonstrate: 

  • Leadership and/or Management experience within a healthcare setting
  • Willingness to take on a portfolio(s) contributing to department quality improvements
  • Computer technical competency working with electronic patient/medical records, supporting the unit with changes and training when required
  • Ability to establish, review and implement new systems, processes and procedures;
  • Proven facilitation, negotiation and interpersonal skills enabling effective stakeholder management;
  • Australian working rights/visa

Experience in people and change management is desirable and an understanding of specialist consulting operations will be an advantage. 

Previous experience in healthcare is strongly preferred and we are open to considering a job share arrangement for this important role.

This position is classified as HS5 in the Health & Allied Services, Managers & Administrative Workers EBA and an attractive salary, including an above Award allowance, is available dependent on skills and experience.
