The Organisation
  
For 30 years Canteen has been supporting young cancer patients, young people dealing with the grief of losing a loved one, and young people who have a sibling or parent with cancer in addition to a range of support programs including specialist, youth-specific treatment and clinical trials programs.
  
Through Canteen young people learn to explore and deal with their feelings about cancer and connect with other young people in the same boat. 
  
Canteen works by having young people at the centre of everything they do. Initially established by a group of young cancer patients in 1985, the organisation continues in the mission to truly understand how cancer is different in a young person’s world through their leading edge research into the emotional and social impacts of cancer.
  
As part of the team at Canteen you will assist these young people to access the support they need to develop and maintain the skills and confidence to live healthy and happy lives.

The Role
  
Working closely with clinical advisors you will oversee the delivery of high-quality psycho-social support to young people and families impacted by cancer through the provision of counselling services and digital and in-person programs.
  
Reporting to the Head of Services and Engagement you will set and implement a strategic vision for Victorian alignment with Canteen’s national strategic plan.  You will lead and support a multi-disciplinary services team of seven to ensure a high-quality approach to service delivery and a high-performance team culture.
  
You will be an experienced and strong leader with confident networking skills and proven experience building effective relationships with external stakeholders.

Skills Required

You have a health and community services background including the support and monitoring of funded initiatives, programs or services. You have led teams to deliver services to improve the wellbeing of service users.  You are an experienced, values based leader, with a coaching style of management. You champion a culture of respect, high performance and leading through change to best meet the needs of their young people. Along with tertiary qualifications in an allied health or relevant field, you’re able to demonstrate:

  • Experience in managing multi-disciplinary psychosocial teams with demonstrated ability to develop an effective team culture and high performance
  • High level strategic project management and planning skills
  • Proven experience in building effective relationships with external stakeholders to drive organisational awareness and service growth
