The Role

This is a rare opportunity to support two world-leading non-profit partners in delivering strategic legal interventions with impact. As grant manager, you play a significant role within the Sunrise and FILE grants teams. You will lead all aspects of the grant management process throughout the lifecycle and coordinate with colleagues in the Sunrise and FILE programmes, operations, and within partner organisations. You will be the key point of contact on all grants-related issues internally and externally; safeguarding funds, managing risk, monitoring progress, supporting partnerships, and enabling impact, for the Sunrise, FILE, and grantees. Your key responsibilities include:

  • Managing the full cycle grant portfolio, from due diligence to closure
  • Supporting grantees through development of proposals to recommendation for approval
  • Co-developing suitable grant-making and management approaches in line with risk reviews
  • Assessing and tracking the sustainability profile of partner organisations
  • Cultivating partnerships with grantees and supporting organisational development
  • Leading the internal processes of contracting, including all grantee communication
  • Monitoring the progress and outcomes of projects and grants, including reporting requirements
  • Supporting portfolio budget management, with responsibility for monitoring the grants budget
  • Supporting and sharing the implementation of policies, procedures and systems

Skills Required

You are driven by a passion to solve the climate crisis. You love systems and processes that are lean and flexible, but robust and not overly bureaucratic, and you understand how to support and encourage people to use these systems. Your background includes grants, philanthropy, or programme management, with grant-making implementation experience. Additionally, you bring:

  • Outstanding and collaborative internal and external partnership management skills
  • Excellent budget and finance management skills, including due diligence and risk management
  • Experience evaluating impact, grant performance, financial reports, and proposal budgets
  • Sound analytical and quantitative skills; ability to assimilate and digest extensive information
  • First-rate verbal, written communication, and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability in team collaboration and working autonomously
  • Strong organisational and project management skills; ability to adapt to changing priorities
  • A genuine interest in the Sunrise and FILE missions and values
  • Experience of legal strategies, campaigns or advocacy and non-profit networks is a plus
  • Availability to adjust work hours to fit with multiple time zones is required

The Sunrise Project and FILE recognize that racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, classism and other forms of discrimination creates structural barriers that impact opportunities to formal education and experience. When assessing candidates, they look at more than the jobs you’ve been paid to do but the range of ways you’ve picked up skills and knowledge throughout your life. They value and recognize experience that has been unpaid, from the grassroots or as lived experience.

If you share The Sunrise Project and FILE’s mission to drive the global transition to net-zero, please apply by sending your resume and a cover letter responding to the skills and experience or call Lois Freeke on 03 8080 8976

Please note there is no formal closing date for this role, if you are interested we would encourage you to apply as soon as possible.
