Soundfair is a Melbourne based national charity creating a fair world for people with hearing conditions. Lived experience is the foundation of who we are, how we think, and what we do.

We improve the health and wellbeing of people with hearing conditions by tackling stigma, focusing on the whole person, and addressing social inequities.

 Soundfair is a non-profit passionate about improving the health and wellbeing of people with hearing conditions. We do this is by tackling stigma, focusing on the whole person, and addressing societal inequities. We offer:

  • Australia’s only Hearing Centre that delivers integrated social and emotional hearing health services in person and via telehealth;
  • Australia’s only Hearing Bank that provides refurbished hearing aids together with social and emotional support to people who would otherwise not be able to afford them;
  • innovative education and information to public and health professionals on the social and emotional impacts of hearing conditions, including tinnitus;
  • research into improving the health and wellbeing of people with hearing conditions, including removing barriers to access and addressing their psychosocial needs;
  • a suite of projects that build community and catalyse change, such as the Unheard Stories film festival, the Soundfair Social, and Facebook Groups for facilitated peer-to-peer support

H O W  W E  W O R K

Social problems require social solutions. The barriers to participation and inclusion people with hearing conditions face are created by society’s systems, structures and culture, and are experienced as an ecosystem of disadvantage and exclusion. Therefore, Soundfair works to identify and pull the key levers of change across society by:

  • Cultivating the landscape – changing perceptions of, and narratives around, hearing conditions
  • Challenging the current regime – through advocacy, developing new models of hearing care and education
  • Creating niches of innovation – by investing in research and development of new and transformative products and services
  • Nourishing a deep roots system – making space for communities to flourish and stories of lived experience to be shared to catalyse change across society

About the role

A unique opportunity exists for a Marketing and Communications professional who is ready to step up their impact and skills to join our led-by-lived-experience organisation.

This is a full-time position (negotiable), fixed term contract for 12 months initially, with a fantastic hybrid work set up alongside family/full life flexibility.

We are shifting the focus to be on the whole person and their wellbeing (not just their ears), tackling stigma and overcoming inequities across society. We are looking for a fantastic mar/coms person who loves story-telling and changing lives. This role requires someone who is flexible, proactive, curious, and inclusive. You don’t need to have years of experience – but you do need the right mindset and skills ready to grow!

The Engagement and Marketing Coordinator will work closely with the CEO and Leads to execute and evaluate and execute on all aspects of marketing and communications for the organisation.

At a high level, success will look like:

  • Growth in reach of Soundfair’s services
  • Growth and increased engagement with community of supporters (people with lived experience, professionals, organisations, funders etc)
  • Strengthened gathering and sharing powerful, lived-experience stories that inform Soundfair’s work and increase awareness of hearing conditions
  • Evolution and clarity on Soundfair and Tinnitus Australia’s brand and positioning
  • Alignment and increased capacity across the organisation to shout (but also ensure it is captioned) the Soundfair message from the roof tops!
  • An even better team and culture for having you in it.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Execute and oversee effective marketing and communications strategy across the organisation.
  • Develop and execute brand and tactical multichannel campaigns for the whole organisation, with particular focus on patronage of Soundfair’s whole person services.
  • Engage, manage, and extend Soundfair’s community of supporters through development and execution of a social media strategy and campaigns.
  • Informed by an understanding of analytics and ROI, developing, and implementing effective audience and growth strategies.
  • Develop and nurture key relationships with industry partners, funding bodies, government departments, suppliers, and media contacts.
  • Design and produce marketing materials (print and digital) and key organisational reports.
  • Manage digital assets.
  • Involvement in conceptualisation and deliver successful events.

What you’ll need (essential)

  • Demonstrated passion to do work that makes a difference to people’s lives
  • Tertiary or Vocational Qualifications in Media, Journalism, Communications, Marketing or Public Relations
  • Working collaboratively and flexibly to meet the needs of the team, in addition to own priorities
  • Be solutions focused and resourceful, able to take the initiative and problem solve for yourself
  • You know how to tell, extract and build, and share stories
  • Demonstrated experience executing brand and tactical marketing campaigns
  • Demonstrated understanding and proficiency in digital marketing.
  • Experience producing digital content, (newsletters, blog posts, social media posts)
  • Strong and effective communication skills – written and verbal
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Project management skills and experience working to multiple deadlines
  • High level of computer literacy including Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite and Analytics.

What you’ll need (desirable)

  • Experience with graphic design.
  • Experience using customer relationship management software ( eg Zoho) to manage customer data (CRM) and content management systems (CMS) such as WordPress.
  • Experience planning and delivering successful events

It would be great if you also had:

  • Personal experience of hearing conditions or D/deafness
  • Understanding of the hearing healthcare, or health/disability sectors
  • Experience or understanding of working in a Not For Profit, For Purpose or Non-Government Organisation
