Who we are
headspace is the National Youth Mental Health Foundation. We began in 2006, and ever since we’ve provided early intervention mental health services to 12-25-year-olds.

Each year, we help thousands of young people, and their family and friends, access vital support through our headspace services in over 145 communities across Australia, our online and phone counselling services, our vocational services, and our presence in schools.

 

About the Community Engagement Worker role

Our headspace office in Port Macquarie is currently seeking an energetic and dynamic Community Engagement Worker with excellent communication skills, to join their team on a part-time 0.5fte (19hrs per week) basis. This is a fixed-term contract until June 2023 with the possibility of an extension.

What you’ll be doing

As the Community Engagement Worker you will perform the following:

  • Promote the services of headspace and help young people gain early access to health care and other services. This includes young people who have or may be at risk of developing a mental health and/or substance use disorder or have economic and social recovery needs.
  • Support facilitation of social inclusion and reference groups.
  • Build relationships with the community and external service providers, actively working to develop and implement processes to meet objectives.
  • Work collaboratively with other staff at the headspace centre to help ensure the centres deliver youth-focussed services to young people.
  • Design and coordinate events and activities for target groups to increase the profile of headspace and deliver key messages.
  • Use social media and other tools to engage young people with the work of headspace.

 

 

Who we’re looking for

If you’re a Community Engagement enthusiast, qualified with a minimum Certificate IV in Disability, Mental Health, Youth Work, Community Services or related field, and experience working within the community (specifically with young people with mental health, alcohol and other drug, and other social issues), you might be exactly the person we’re looking for!
Working after hours and weekends may be required.

 

Who you’ll be working with

Reporting to the Community Engagement Coordinator, you will be working with a multidisciplinary team of professionals who are dedicated to providing clients and the wider community with the best possible support.
