About the organisation
The NSW Environmental Trust provided capital investment to a Consortium to co-design and deliver a voluntary certification scheme to reduce the risk of future weed invasions from escaped garden plants. The Consortium include; Nursery & Garden Industry NSW & ACT, Australian Institute of Horticulture, NSW Department of Primary Industries and NSW Department of Planning & Environment (NPWS). The Scheme is now operational in NSW and looking to roll out nationally across Australia over the next 12 – 24 months as a new not for profit organisation. About the role
We are seeking expressions of interest for a voluntary non-executive director to champion a ground-breaking new initiative. This position will work closely with the Consortium to transition from a grant funded pilot program to a new not for profit organisation. The role provides an opportunity for entrepreneurs, ambassadors and strong leaders to represent a cross sectoral collaboration between industry, government and community to reach 11 million gardeners across Australia to prevent future landscape scale weed invasions, using market forces to influence garden plant choices.
We are looking for:
- A true collaborator that can advocate on behalf of industry, government and community stakeholders
- strong skills in communication, relationship building and the ability to work in a team
- experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Establishing new enterprises
- Finance & Fundraising
- Media & Communications
- Governance & Legal
- Leadership & Strategy
- we would highly value people with knowledge in horticulture and/or environment
- the ability and willingness to devote the necessary time to the role of Director
How to apply
To champion the Gardening Responsibly Initiative the position requires:
- Communications, Media and Representation of the Consortium (be available for PR opportunities 3 days per 6 months);
- Entrepreneurial direction to transition to a NFP and seek investment from multiple sources (attend Consortium meetings 1 hour per month);
- Governance, Relationships and Finger on the Pulse connecting strategy and operations (consult with and advocate for Consortium stakeholders agencies and meet with Program Manager 1 day per month).
Meetings may include both face to face and virtual (via zoom). The position is for 12 months with an opportunity for extension.
Opportunity for reimbursement of expenses up to $3,000.
